Can't see paying the "Honda tax" on these things. Anyone have any experience with a particular brand vs others? FRAM makes a charcoal impregnated element to help reduce allergins and odors. Wondering if it was worth the extra $$$$ vs Purolator makes a standard filter for about $20. Thanks in advance.

I bought mine from Tim with an engine air filter and the price seemed reasonable. Have you checked his price?

Activated charcoal helps absorb vapors - it doesn't do anything for allergens. You need sub-micron particle filtering for that. Bosch makes a cabin air filter too, though not with activated charcoal (they do for other vehicles). I bought one of the Bosch cabin air filters (also w/o charcoal) for my Prius and it was something like $28 at AutoZone for what looked like an 8"x8" square of pleated material out of a 3M home A/C filter.

Lots of generic ones out there.

Ended up getting an OEM (Honda) paper filter off eBaymotors.com from a Honda dealer in AZ for $24, shipped. Not bad. Thanks all for the input.

Bosch does make them with the activated charcoal for the MDX. I got my for ~$30 at AutoZone as well.

What's the part number? It's not showing up in their online catalog - I only see the non-charcoal one.

No, the fact that the part number starts with a "P" means that it is only a particulate filter, and does not have activated charcoal. The charcoal filters' part numbers start with a "C". For instance, for a 2006 Audi A6, you can get a C3601 for $37 or a P3601 for $29. There is no "C3890", which is what the part number would be if there was an activated charcoal cabin air filter for the MDX from Bosch.

Well, thanks to the instructions provided members of this Forum, I replaced the cabin filter yesterday. Hardest (most frustrating) part was reinstalling the glove box - getting the bottom two retaining bolts lined up and back in place by feel alone was a royal PITA. Other than that, very straight forward. Total cost: $24 and an hour of my time.

Note: the filter removed was almost totally clogged with crud, including small leaves, dirt and other debris...after only about 35k miles.
