Hi Experts -
Yesterday (And this has happened twice to me before) when we pull into our garage and as we are going over the 1 inch bump between the smooth surface of the garage and the driveway, the engine cuts out. The electronics are ok(i.e. DVD or CD player both continued, and so did the A/C).
No problems with big speed bumps though....only happened when pulling into the garage
I'm worried that it'll cut out while driving on my wife and 2 young kids.
I made an appointment with the dealer for tomorrow but I'm worried that they won't be able to reproduce it...any thoughts?
Also, once when I cranked the car, the VSA light stayed on. It wasn't until I turned off the car and then turned it back on the light went away... |

I'm going to take a guess and blame the IAC motor.
Only way to know for sure though is to have it properly diagnosed. |

| Just got back from the dealer and they couldn't reproduce the problem nor did they find a problem with the ignition switch...I guess we'll wait and see if it happens again |

| Were you doing anything else at the time? (e.g., riding the brakes, turning the steering wheel a certain way, etc.) |

Hey Squishy
I guess we were pulling in slowly and probably foot slightly on the brakes |

We had a similar problem that was helped with a cleaning of the throttle body and, ultimately, was not cured until we had our valves adjusted. This was with 98k miles on the clock for an '03.
We were throwing codes, MIL and VTM, though. Doesn't sound like your is?? |

Is it not supposed to turn off when it is in the garage?

| If you keep your foot slightly on the brake and go over that bump in your garage, can you recreate it? It may have something to do with vacuum. |

MDX is built to handle tough situations, like big bumps, etc. I don't think it is designed and can handle that 1" bump :D
Ok, I vote for the IAC. You can take it off and just clean it, don't have to replace it (pretty expensive I believe).
Let us know. |

Hi Everyone, thanks for your replies
The dealership said no codes were thrown and that they checked the ignition switch and even jiggled it around to see if they could re create it, which they couldn't do.
I'll have them look at the IAC the next time I bring the car in. Is cleaning the IAC something I could do myself?
I'm trying to think how we were driving that might trigger it, I'm pretty sure it happened as we were pulling straight into the garage and almost going so slow that we couldn't quit make it over the 1 inch bump |

Yes, quite easily actually. The IAC is right at the front of the throttle body. You can remove it, separate it from the solenoid (2 screws) and spray it clean with brake cleaner. I have to clean mine every 45K miles or so. |

| It could very well be the fuel filter, do a tune up on it. that wouldn't hurt. after the tune up see how it runs. do the full tune up also. if nothing then check your idle sensor. and catalytic converter. could be clogged up. still if nothing then at least you got a tune up done. think positive about everything you do |
