Hi all, first time poster here :) I wish it were under better circumstances.
2003 MDX with 47,000 miles. I have only ever ran premium gas in it.
Check Engine and VTM-4 lights on. I also get the occasional "rumble strip" affect when accelerating.
I did some research and and it looks like a textbook case of the what appears to be infamous bad EGR valve. I borred a friends OBD II code reader and plugged it in today and to my surprise I got only these codes...
P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0301-P0306 - Cylinder Misfires Detected (1-6)
Any thoughts, or take it to the dealer and cross my fingers. |

Error code could be a multitude of simple things (even bad gas).
Typically, I'd suggest just resetting the OBD and see if the errors come back (that could quickly rule out many simple one time occurance issues)
If your also getting the occasional rumble strip, however, I'd take it to the dealer anyway as your mileage is low enough that you might get some relief it there is an EGR or related tranny issue. |

We just had a similar experience with a 2002 MDX at 120,000 miles. Never threw an EGR code but would throw the random misfire and specific cylinder misfire codes within a few miles of being reset. Seemed to run fine at low RPMs, but would occasionally have the rumble strip feeling at 50 or 60 MPH. We have mostly used the cheapest regular grade gas that we could find over the years.
Dealer diagnosed it as being clogged EGR ports. They cleaned the EGR ports and flushed the fuel injection system and it now runs fine again. They did not replace the EGR valve. |
