I attempted to take delivery of a new MDX on 9/30/01. I inspected the MDX and noted an 1 and 1/2 inch scratch near the rear near the tire well on the passanger side. I pointed this out to the saleman. He called his manager to look at it. The response I received from the manager was, "Don't put this on the survery!"
I did not take delivery due to the scratch. The manager went on to say "they would take care of it."
Even if they fix the scratch, my concern is that the paint job at that scratch site is not as good as the factory paint job and may be prone to rusting or fading. I don't believe the Acura warranty covers paint. My brother suggested I demand a completely new MDX. What should I do? Should I take delivery if is fixed? Should I demand a new, unscratched MDX? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (sorry for rambling on) |

Was the scratch down to the primer +/or metal, or surface only? If the latter, then it probably can be buffed out. If the former, then they'll have to repaint/touch-up and you're right: it won't be as good as original. You didn't mention what color the car is -- some colors are easier to paint/blend than others.
It's a tough question about what to do: a new MDX should be flawless. The reality is, you're going to put your own scratches on it eventually.
I personally would have them fix it and ask for cash or accessories for the trouble. But I'd refuse it if the fix isn't adequate. BTW, the paint should be covered under the standard factory warranty. |

| ... but I agree with Worm, the wait is too long. No telling how long refusing delivery will set you back time wise. Assuming the fix looks satisfactory and is warranted I'd ask them for something for your trouble and take delivery. Good luck. |
