Hi.
I'm a newbie to this forum, having just bought a used 2003 MDX a few days ago. I've got one problem immediately that I'm quite certain is my starter ... noise lasting a couple seconds immediately after startup when it's really cold out. Starter problem seems consistent w/ other threads I've found here.
Anyway, I've recently rebuilt the starter in my 97 Toyota Landcruiser (new contacts and plunger/magnet). Really easy job for $30 ... a lot better than a whole new starter. But the only threads I've found here talk about replacing the starter entirely. Why is that? Has anyone attempted a starter rebuild?
Forgive my ignorance on this, no service manual yet so I don't even know if it's possible on the X.
Thanks. |

Rebuild is a great option (assuming your not under warranty).
I had a similar issue with my '03 starter earlier in the winter. There was never an issue with the car starting, but the 'whirrring sound' had me worried. The dealer covered it under my extended warranty, otherwise I'd have gone the rebuild route. |

Ditto, good option. I would go for it but I'm not that mechanically inclined. (Thats why I had to give the dealer my wallet:2: ) I do know that all starters for 1st gen MDXs at this point are used or rebuilds; none brand new are sold anymore.

| Thanks for the confirmation. I'll go that route. |
