2008 Rear Seat Ent Headsets Won't Play Dolby Digital Tracks - Click HERE for Original Thread

My 2008 MDX is three months old. The rear seat headsets have worked fine since new, but a couple of weeks ago they stopped working. After much diagnosis, I figured out that they no longer work when a Dolby Digital sound track is selected on the DVD menu. They will work fine for all other audio sources, and they will work fine if I choose a DTS DVD audio track. Problem is, not every DVD has a DTS track. Also, I can select DVD on the front dash as the front audio source, and I can hear the DVD audio through the normal speakers when playing a Dolby Digital track. So the DVD player seems to be reading and decoding the Dolby Digital audio properly, and the headsets seem to be working properly for anything other than a Dolby Digial DVD audio source. Anyone else have this problem?

My dealer is 40 miles away in the next town, and so I can't easily swing by and drop off.

Thanks.

That is strange. I don't think the headsets have any decoders so there shouldn't be an issue with the audio source being DTS or Dolby.

Yes, I agree. The headsets should not care about the source, but some component in that system has to convert the 5.1 sound format into a two channel format. I did try a DVD with only a two channel track, and that did not play over the headsets either. Very strange.

I can turn the volume all the way up on the headsets and hear background white noise, and so the headsets are receiving a signal during the times that they seem to be not working. This leads me to believe that something is wrong in the head unit or amplifier, or perhaps in the circuitry that turns off the rear speakers when the rear ent. power is on.
