Last fall, the electrical system in my wife's 2001 MDX shorted out. The dealership determined that a tow control module had burned out, and said it was charred.
I can't remember the exact price, but I think they said it was $600 to replace. We didn't have the money, so they disconnected it for the winter.
With Spring approaching, we'll need to tow our boat again, so I need to get this fixed.
Does anyone have any idea what the part they were referring to could be? I couldn't find anything from searching online. I'm hoping I can replace it myself.
We have the Acura tow package, and the only electronics involved is the hookup for the lights. Our trailer has surge brakes, so there's no brake control involved. I'm really not sure what part they could be talking about, especially for that much money. |

Neither do I. As far as I know, and I know an awful lot, there is no "tow control module" in the 2001 MDX. There is a tow package wiring harness, but that's about $100 or $150- it's just a bundle of four wires with a plug.
Did your electric brake controller (aftermarket, not Acura) burn out? DO you think the dealer is offering to replace that aftermarket part? |

There are no aftermarket parts, it's the standard Acura tow package tha we had put on when we bought the truck in 2001...
The wiring harness is the only thing I found as well, but it didn't seem to match what my wife was describing as the problem from what the dealership told her. Unfortunately I wasn't there to get more details when she took it in.
What is the labor involved with installing the wiring harness? |
