| Test drove a Base MDX today. I did not notice any sort of pull strap on the inside of the rear hatch. Since my wife is quite small, I'm afraid that there is no way she could pull down the hatch if I wasn't around. Did I just miss this, or could it have been hidden somehow? |

| its just a little indent near the edge of the bottom of the gate. |

| Appreciate the prompt reply. If I understand correctly it would not be of any help to one who could not actually reach the edge of the open hatch. Is OK - just another reason to keep her out of the driver's seat:D . |

now when you are spending so much money, I am sure she'll nag to get into the seat. BUT newer MDX's may have the ability to retrofit the automatic tail-gate. There were some posts on it here. |

| Guess its time to see how well the search function works! Thanks again. BTW - really like how the MDX drives. Have been comparing against a new Highlander LTD. The MDX will probably cost about 2K more even in the Base version and may well have to give up the power liftgate - but I think its worth it. |

You'll pay a small premium over the Highlander, but they are in totally different segments. The Acura MDX is a luxury SUV which will handle and drive better than the Highlander. Not to mention, you will be receiving better post-sales service with Acura than Toyota. Now, as far as the power liftgate goes...I was in a similar situation since my wife is small too. However, I ended up springing the extra money for Tech/Ent for the power liftgate. If you don't have the means (or don't want to) to pay extra just for this feature, perhaps, you can just add a strap to the liftgate handle to make it easier to shut. It's not going to be cost effective to try to retrofit a power liftgate on a base MDX. |

Point taken. In reality it is not a big deal for us. My wife will continue to use her Camry around town which fits her perfectly and is very nicely equipped. The MDX is what I'll use around town when necessary, but will primarily be used as a retirement/seeing North America vehicle. We probably won't put much more than 10K/year on it which is one reason I can put up with the increased fuel cost.
I'm sure that I am one of the few Luddites here in that I do not particularly like ANY built in NAV and find this one to be needlessly complex. We have little or no use for the traffic feature and after listening to both sound systems will be perfectly happy with the base version. For NAV a $400 Garmin that is easy and inexpensive to upgrade will be more than adaquate, especially with back-up maps.
The cost for the Base is just about our limit as we will be paying cash. Doing my best to avoid ANY debt going into retirement. |
