I've got 22k miles on my 06 MDX and this is the second time I've got the metal on metal sound on my rear brakes. First time was at about 15k miles. I've never had a car start doing that so quickly. They reglazed the rotors when I brought it in for that the first time. Now they're just saying the pads are getting low, but everything is fine, and I should get another 4-5000 miles out of them. I've never had that sound be fine in other cars. Do they build in some metal in the pads as a reminder type thing that they're getting low? Should I need new pads so soon?
Don't think I'll be getting the brakes done at the dealer when the time comes. I already get annoyed at their maintenance schedules compared to what Acura recommends. I always find it funny how when you opt to not do what they recommend, they make you feel guilty like you're not maintaining the car properly. |

| Could be the brake pad wear indicators making the noise.......highly doubtful if it is the pads that you would get that many remaining miles out of them. Get them checked out at another reputable place. |

| That's what I was thinking. Have a few mechanic friends that have worked on my cars in the past. Will be heading to them when i have time. |

| Not necessarily metal to metal. The rotors on MDX is very easy to rust. If you let it sit there for couple days, especially if it rains, damp, or if you wash the car and didn't drive it alot, etc., the rotor will rust. That will make some terrible noise when you brake. But it will go away when you brake enough that the rust is rubbed off. |
