Greetings.
I'm looking at buying a 2008 MDX w/ Tech/Sport package and I was wondering if anyone could relate any experiences. Are you happy, do you regret buying the car, does it have alot of rattles (important) and if so, what are the most common ones?
I'm asking about the rattles because I presently drive an 07 TL which I call "Acura TL, a symphony of rattles". It's a horrid car, everything squeaks and rattles, driving me crazy. The only way I could drive it is if i blast the radio. I'd like a smoother, more quiet ride, am I on the right track?
Thank you all in advance. |

I have had the 2008 MDX Tech for about 2 months now. 3000 miles later and no issues here. and i think the sport is really very nice with the active damper suspension. I test drove it and trust me that you would fall in love with the smooth-ride.
I dont see any rattles in the car yet, mebbe some of the senior folks here with more miles on the car could answer that. I would recommend getting this vehicle. Check the other forum topic on how much ppl have paid for the tech+sport before you go to the dealer. You can pretty much get very close to the invoice price. |

I've had my X since last September and so far I've put about 7000 miles on it. To date I've had one just one issue with rattles, which were coming from the glovebox (this has cropped up on some other X's too). I'm not sure what my dealer did, but they fixed on the first try and my X has been rattle-free ever since. Oh, and in case you didn't notice from my avatar, I live in Manhattan, so my X has seen some of the worst pavement known to mankind, and even so, it has remained as tight as a drum.
Others have had problems with sounds emanating from the suspension, but I've never heard anything untoward coming from my undercarriage.
Now it's true that I'm only talking about 7000 miles here, so what the future brings is anyone's guess, but so far I must say that I'm quite impressed with how well my interior is holding up in this regard. This is a sticking point of mine, so you can bet that if I were having problems in this arena you'd have heard me bltching about ad nauseam in this forum by now. Go check out the Lexus/BMW/VW/M-B forums if you want to hear tales of squeaks, creaks, groans and rattles.

We've got an '08 Elite (uh, sport/entertainment in the U.S.?). It's got about 4000km (close to 3000 miles I think) and I love it more every day. I had a sick co-owner home all week, so I was the driver all week and today when he drove, I soooo missed being in the driver's seat! I told him that he's not allowed to drive MY MDX anymore. :D
When the kids haven't been with me this week, I've kept it in sport mode and shifted manually and all I could do was smile, oh ya. :4: I haven't noticed in any rattles thus far and I am really particular about those sorts of things.
The only thing I wish was that the MDX had a heated steering wheel. :) Oh, and that he headrests were power with the seats so I didn't have to adjust it after co-owner drove. The seats are sooooooo comfy though, I think I could live in this vehicle. |

| We have had ours for about a month and a half, 1400 miles. No rattle so far. The best about it: the driving/handling. The worst about it (IMHO): the leather quality, especially the head rests, must have come from some bad cows. |

| have around 10K, and only 2 rattles. One from the glovebox that fixed itself, and the other from the rear entertainment scree, it was just a loose clip. |

07 MDX Sport/Ent 9,500 plus miles ytd...
NO rattles
I am a old timer with Acura's. I knew the current TL was a rattle box! It was confirmed with my insiders from my dealership....The current MDX is probably their best built vehicle right now.....The RL is a great vehicle but too small of a back seat, small trunk, NO V-8 and looks too much like an accord on steroids....Even the 09 is MORE fugly! You will not be disappointed with the new MDX.....:1:
I have an 04 RL (last one before they screwed it up with the newer model). Now that's a mule that is SOLID and completely JAPAN BUILT! Consumer reports gives an ALL SOLID RED DOT rating !!!! :1: :1: :1: |

| I picked up mine in October - it currently has 15,400 miles. No rattles at all. Build quality is excellent! |

I have 23,000 miles on my tech/ent. I can't speak to the sport version, but here are the few issues I have had -
Drivers seat parchment leather discolored, seat replaced
Clunking in rear, dealer fixed, not sure what the problem was
Loose original install on roof rack, fixed.
Other than that, my only minor complaint is the servicing. I follow the manual but it does get expensive with some of the things Acura says you need to do. I'd also like it if it had FM id on the songs like my old GM. The technology is amazing and works great - I have never seen a better Nav system or more integrated bluetooth. If you've never listened to DVD-A you should try it on the MDX.
No rattles that I have found.:) |

Sounds great :D I've already started requesting price quotes for a 08 Sport/Tech package and there's like 5 acura dealers in Chicago fairly close to me.
The best quote i received, from the 2nd dealer, is $45653 out the door. U guys think that's adequate? I"m a terrible negotiator, i'd probably walk in, show em the quote and get it for the price, i'd be ashamed of asking them to throw in some free stuff. I wouldn't even know what to ask for :( |

Invoice price is 44,301 , tell em you want body side moldings also and 3 free oil changes, don"t be ashamed, remember they have a low I.Q. and don't get suckered in the finance managers office by
purchasing wheel and tire insurance, etching, other bull ___!
Also tell them they have 10 inutes to do the deal and then start walking, I had the sales manager chase me thru the parking lot, I didn't stop, he called me on Monday and gave me everything i wanted, the car at invoice, body side moldings and 3 oil change services.:1: :1: :1: :1: |

If out the door includes tax, title and license, then that is a very good deal. As ductman states, invoice is 44301 and just tax alone would be around $3500 in the Chicago area, right? So you're at 42K right there. |

These are merely my experience ...
I have had my MDX for 15 months ... have just under 29,000 miles.
Pros:
-- I like the Sport model I purchased, but I did so more for the trim inside and the wheels rather than the Sport Mode. If you like the regular wheels and Sport Mode doesn't seem like a big deal to you, go ahead with the regular trim. I think the base rides a slight bit better than the Sport model in Comfort mode.
-- Love the layout of the Navigation ... graphics are just OK, but fuctionally it's as solid as any imho. I LIKE the fact it's not touch screen ... was worried at first, but like it now.
Cons:
-- Driver's seat comfort. I don't feel the seats are very comfortable ... the side bolsters feel too hard to me ... especially over my Lexus RX.
-- Headrests ... I know they're designed for safety, but I'm not a fan of them ... not a comfortable place to rest your head as a passenger (wouldn't do so as a driver).
-- Speaker rattles ... I don't have general rattles, but the audio speakers seem to rattle a lot (I do like my music rather loud). Audio system overall is pretty solid ... wish it had a "mid" adjustment though.
-- Premium fuel usage and supposed 300hp. I know people will freak out on this and you'll get the usual (if you can afford the car, you can afford the gas). My point is ... THE ONLY REASON Acura went with high compression (which requires premium fuel) is so they'd have the marketing of 300hp in a V-6. I would rather have less supposed output and use regular fuel. The car has more than enough power, but I don't find it especially fast.
--------------------------------------------
I know that looks like more cons than pros, but I have enjoyed the car. I like the size and I like the amount of overall room the car has. Overall I really like it, but just wanted to put out some of the negatives I've experienced just to have all the info out there. |

Honestly it's a good vehicle. Everyone has issues with new vehicles ...but overall the issues are minor with the X... nothing that warranty won't take care of in a jiffy.
4 months and nearly 5k miles still working like new... used and loved everyday :) ...plus the extra change $$$ in the pocket is always nice comapred to more expensive vehicles that come with nearly the same stuff.
Sport all the way !!! whoot :p ...heheh :p |

Hi
I've had my X (Tech) since November. Bought a demo model with 2K miles. I have only got on about 1,500 myself. No problems or rattles so far.
The demo had the Sport rails. I also got the Cargo cover and roofracks.
I subscribed to Consumer Reprots Car buying guide - it had really useful info about Invoice, holdback, etc.
I shopped around (dealerships with internet presence in Houston, got the best offers, made an Excel spreadsheet of them), took an offer from another dealer to beat any other price by $300, and then took it all to the dealership I wanted to deal with (closest, good rep, etc.)
I got them to meet the "beat any deal by $300" price. I had the option of a new car without the Sports running boards, or the demo with them. I figured the demo would have been checked out more thoroughly, so that's what I took.
I also got a quote from Acuradeals on the AcuraCare extended warranty, and then had my dealership come as close as possible (sorry, Tim! - I have bought other stuff from you since then). It chopped $1200 off the 120K mile extended waranty.
I think the Car price was $41,006 (basically split the difference between holdback and Invoice ...)
Good luck! I've been really enjoying my car!

I've had my X almost 10 months and 16K miles, and I love it! No rattles or squeaks. Rock solid and plenty of power. I got the TECH and opted not for the Sport, which now I wished I'd gotten, but don't regret anything about the vehicle.
My only concerns are:
Navi screen is completely washed out on a bright sunny day. Forget about seeing anything in the back-up camera also.
Wished the radio had song/artist ID as XM does.
Wished the power liftgate option was part of some other package besides the ENT.....can't figure out how/why they go together...
Would love to see a Type S version to compete against the Benz ML AMG and BMW X5 4.4
Minor things I know.....bottom line is the X rocks!!! Why spend tons more cash for a less competent vehicle like the X5, ML350 or Q7... |

| Hate this car, had problems from the beginning. First steering wheel vibration right from the dealership. Then around 1200 miles it started pulling to the left, first dealer said the tires were to wide or the road had too much crown, but not the car. After opening a case with Acura and taking it to a different dealer they found that left strut was bad, almost 9000 miles on the car at that time. Second dealer replaced the strut and it was still pulling, and started vibrating again at high speeds. They did alignment multiple times, couple of balancing, and a steering wheel adjustment, poling is a little better and it still has vibration in the wheel, gas pedal and front seat. Remote key 1 failed in the first couple of month and had to be replaced. Left air vent was coming out of the dashboard on the second week and had to be replaced. |

Sorry to hear about your symphony, though I did get a good chuckle from that.
This is my first Honda/Acura product, and above anything else, I am very pleased with the fit and finish (I came from an 04 Maxima, and that was a symphony as well). I am 1 week away from 9 months and almost 10K miles, and I still love it.
I would have liked the power gate and push button start, but other than that, I am very pleased with my Sport. |

Get your lazy A$$ up, reach that gate & close it the old fashion way. For most of us that sit all day in our office, cubicle, .... it is infact a good exercise to stretch that fat lazy arm. |

we've just bought a tech/ent as well new... luv the X, but since the wife gets to drive it, I only get to enjoy it on weekends...
cars compared to, q7, sequoia, gl450, gx470, yukon/denali... bottom line, either the other vehicles were too expensive as far as bang for your buck, or a little bit too small. The mdx is interesting in that the space (one of the requirements was that w/ the 7 seats up, stroller had to fit) is between a smaller 5 passenger suv and the monster 7 suvs.
anyhow, it just hit the 1k mark on mileage, slowly working it in! I do plan on taking it on a little offroading! (hopefully it'll stay together) Sane offroading, no wall climbing madness, very slow speeds, just want the clearance of an suv.
the one big ticket item i do miss.... ventilated seats... living in the southwest desert, it would be nice! |

I'm at 16K miles on my 2007 with zero problems so far. No rattles or anything.
Only change I made was swapping out the Michelins and adding a full size spare.
Sure I have a list of things that I'd like added or changed, but overall a very satisfying car. |

Bah! That's what technology is for. I don't even lift my hand to press the switch on my power tailgate. Too much of a stretch - I just press the switch on my remote to open and close the tailgate. :2: |

I have no doubt within 20 years fr now, we just think it & the tailgate will open. Heck you can chop all my limbs for that matter. Virtual reality is everything. ;) |

Thanks for your feedback guys :D Except for one negative, all were pretty good :D
Anyone know when the 09MDX will be out? I'm not sure weather to just go for an 08 or give it a few more months for the 09.
Thanks again for all the replies :D :D :D |

My expert spies in the industry tell me it will be in a few months, probably sometime close to 09. |

If Acura follows their usual m.o. for a mid-model cycle then you can expect the '09 MDX to bow in October. Can you wait that long? If so, you'll probably be rewarded with some new wheels and a couple of more bells and whistles (keyless ignition, cooled seats, blind spot warning..?).
