I am the type to put in whatever brand of gas is most accessible that are major companies. I put in shell, BP, Hess, sunoco, mobil, exxon.
Recently I have noticed when I put in mobil or exxon (93 octane)
the MDX performs better than all the other brands of the same octane. Performance meaning engine revs faster, faster response from pedal to engine.
Has anyone noticed this or am I nuts.

Well I would never say you were nuts, but...

Most of the actual gas comes from the same source, the additives are what is different. (At least here in Minnesota)

Did any of the gas you tested have Ethanol in the mix?

I have never been able to tell much difference in brands, got to be careful as some are going to 91 octane.

hipcheck is correct. I work for one of the major oil companies that you list and the only difference in gasoline’s is the additives that are added at the time the tanker is loaded.

Gasoline is a commodity product and exchanged between companies/brands. The additives are not significantly different either. There should be no noticeable performance or mileage difference between brands.

All of the gas in NY has 10% Ethanol year round.

I didn't know gas was traded b/w companies and gas is the same whether at mobil or BP. I'll see what happens when I stick to one brand then switch over to another.

Yes and big established wine companies here sell to smaller mom and pops start ups.....same snizt....
Cold weather plays into this as well. The VTEC engine loves cold air vs. hot muggy conditions.....
You may be nuts my friend.......:D

I believe that cold weather/cold air is a factor for all engines as the air is more dense the cooler it is.

It can be very noticeable as well. I used to love riding my 2001 Triumph Sprint ST (motorcycle, for those not in the know) on those cool mornings as that 1 liter triple cylinder motor would snarl like the most ferocious of beasts...I really miss riding that thing. However I don't miss worrying about ending up under some moron's fender though. There's always that.:(

Doh!! Had to correct model year for bike...getting old I guess.:p
