Hi all,

I've found an 06 in Dallas that's Acura Certified. It's got everything but RES. Dealers got it listed for 32.5k, but I was wondering if $29k is a respectable starting point? Private Party is $29.9k and trade-in is $26.9k...I thought a fair price would be somewhere in that range.

I would assume that with gas prices what they are, that should give you a decent shot. Those prices you quoted for private party, etc. were tallied as a result of transactions that took place when the economy was on a sure foot and oil was at below $100 per barrel. With the projected higher gas prices at the pump and the shaky economy at best, they need to be more realistic. I personally wouldn't go above $29K.

Start LOW! You can always go up but you can't go lower. When they laugh at you you might even start to walk out of the dealership. They're probably making about $4K on this deal, if not more, so there's a lot of wiggle room. It's your money. They need it more then you need that particular car. If they do let you walk away give them your phone number and tell them to call you after they have thought about it. "Fair" to them is the greatest amount they can get for it. "Fair" to you is the lowest amount. A friend of mine brings his two small kids to the dealership when he buys. They run around like crazy kids while he negotiates. It drives the dealers NUTS and they give him what he wants just to get them out of the dealership! It NEVER fails. If you don't have kids maybe you can borrow some. After they leave the store in their new car they usually have a pizza and a good family laugh over it all.

Hah! The kids story is awesome! We don't have any, so I'll have to borrow some ;-). I'd love to walk out, but i'll be driving 3+ hours just to go see the car...I live in Austin and this vehicle is outside of Dallas. Is it possible to negotiate the price over the phone, assuming everything checks out when i do go see the car? The prior owner (corporate lease) changed the rims and tires, so I will negotiate to have the dealer put stocks rims and tires back on (hopefully a good way to get new tires too!). What's the best way to handle negotiating and buying car that you can't actually see immediately?

Only negotiate when you can see the vehicle. Why get your hopes up if the car is more worn than you thought it was. If you dont like the rims, tell him you dont like them. They are going to try and make u happy. Maybe you can get a new sets of rims and tires. If you arent a strong negotiater, have a friend go with you. And just leave if you arent happy with the price. Maybe since you are coming from a far, you can try and play that to your advantage. Try and see other vehicles in Dallas that day in case it doesnt fall thru. In one day I visited 5 dealers to find my MDX. Not all deals are advertised on the internet.

You could always have a member in Dallas try and check it out for you. Anyone?

Have you searched at cars.com and autotrader.com? I just searched cars.com and there are 7 05 or 06 X's for sale within 50 miles of Austin, including 3 Acura certified. Also, keep in mind that you can buy an Acura extended warranty anytime before the original warranty expires (And before yesterday, I would have said buy from Tim)
skassamali
Yea I know there are several near Austin but am looking for black on black.

Was looking at the one from Vandergriff Acura (on both autotrader and cars.com). Any thoughts/suggestions on this particular vehicle?

It looks like a nice X. If the vehicle is Acura certified, and still under factory warranty, then you know it is good shape. I would have price and terms negotiated before you make the trip, and have purchase subject to your inspection. If you make the trip, you are in their court and more likely to give in to their price. If you don't feel you are getting a good price, don't spend the gas money and waste your time to make the trip. Also, there is probably low financing through Acura on certified vehicles.

Dealer said the vehicle is wholesaled at 29,200...but can get the vehicle back if i'm interested....think 28 or 28.5 is a reasonable offer?

I would also like to bargain to get stock rims and wheels put back on the truck.

I haven't kept up with the news... what do you mean by, "And before yesterday, I would have said buy from Tim?"

Any updates on the progress? I wouldn't trust what the dealer tells you, rather negotiate based on the price you think is fair by doing research.

I think skassamali was referring to the fact that Acura was changing their policy to not allow Extended Warranties to be sold on the internet as of April 1. They have since changed their minds and saw the error of their ways!

It's a bit different on a CPO car, to my knowledge we can only CPO cars that we have done a CPO inspection on and have taken into our inventory.

Now, Tim might be able to sell you the wrap coverage.
