So I had my moon roof open the other day and was surprised at how windy and noisy it was. guess I've been spoiled b/c all my previous vehicles had the visor...
Approx. $187.00 installed..... seems high, how easy is this to install? anyone done it?
thanks |

| Here are the instructions. A few brackets, a few screws, and you're golden. Buy it from Tim for $107 too. |

It's easy to install. If you have a screwdriver, then you can install it.
I got my visor from ebay for $40-50. Can't remember the exact amount. |

| It cuts down the air noise when sunroof is open but causes a wind noise when its closed. Kinda annoying. |

I got mine from Tim for $107 and installed with a friend in about 15 minutes. It is more involved than other vehcles, I have owned/fitted but it is easy enough.
The Stealer wanted $150 to just to install - labor only.
I too feel it makes noise when the sunroof in shut. Kinda CRAZY!

| I bought a factory one only because the one on my TL works very well - not much wind noise at all, even on the highway. The one on the X is terribly noisy, esp on the highway. I eventually took it down. |

I think I'll pass since I kinda like the smooth look of the MDX roof

Any chance you have the roof rack cross rails installed? I ran mine without for a long time and didn't think the noise was bad. I then put them on and it got noticably worse.
For those who are wondering: Yes, I put them on in the right direction. |

I installed ours last weekend and the noise with the roof closed is now terrible. I notice wind noise at 50 km/hr (I think that's around 30mph?) and it gets louder the faster we go. The MDX was nice and quiet before, now it's louder than our Ford Escape!
The bolts said to torque to 1.5 ft/lbs and our torque wrench didn't go that low, so I just did a best guess on the tightness. Maybe I don't have the bolts tight enough? I am going to obtain a torque wrench with lower values and check that out as one possibility.
As for roof rails, someone said they have a correct direction for installation? Our dealer installed ours before we picked it up, so I would assume it's correct, but maybe that's something I should check out as well.
We really like the look of the moonroof visor though, especially with the roof rails. |

I've said it once, twice perhaps three times.......The 07+ Mdx looks BEST WITHOUT mommie dearest roof racks/rails, sun roof visor and useless running boards esp. those sports ones......LEAN and MEAN is how its meant to be.....
Anyone paying a stealership a dollar to install that visor is WASTING money because a MORON could install it in less that 10 minutes........
No pun intended.... |

| Nah. I think mine still looks leaner & meaner. :D |

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. :) I prefer the look WITH the roof rails (not to mention we need them for our cargo box!). I think it looks great with and without the sport running boards, but the running boards are useful for our kids getting in and out of the vehicle by themselves.

Realistically, the install actually takes more than 10 minutes if you include prep time. You spend about 10 mins. getting your cleaning products and tools ready, and then about 5 mins. to clean and wax the roof. Then about 15 for the actual install. So, I'd say you need a half hour in total. I spent about 45 mins because the wind blew away a sheet of the protective tape I needed so I had to search the yard for that, and I dropped a nut into the moonroof track and had to dig it out. :D
So, I agree, no need to pay a dealer to do it. But, a person is NOT a moron if it takes more than 10 minutes.... |

windnoise drives me insane so i'll be skipping the moonroof
thanks for the real world experience |

Mine is waxed so I would only apply a smart quick wipe of Z6 which only takes ONE minute and your DONE......
Skip that tape....who cares what's under that clip 4-5-6 years from now.....? You'll probably trade it in anyway.....so I skip the tape process....
I did put them on my 91 civic, 98 Accord coupe, 03 MDX, 05 MDX and 04 RL.....I don't care for the looks of the new "square" looking visors.....why can't they leave them alone? When something works don't FOOK with it Acura/Honda......Sleek is the best with this 07+ model....
Just my 2 cents.....
Hey LS whats that silver box on your dashboard ???? |
