I'm at 6000 miles and 10% left on maintenance remainder screen. I called the dealer to ask how much this will set me back. They charge $159.00. Ridiculuous. I asked why so much, he goes to say that it includes oil change (not even synthetic), tire rotation and safety inspection. Then I asked what about only oil change/tire rotation. It costs "only" $89.95. So for a so called safety inspection, when mechanic probably won't check anything they want me to pay $70.00. Anyone else got quoted that much? Thanks

Forgot to add, that my dealer gives free oil change as a thank you gift that needs to be used up in first three months or 3750 miles (whichever comes first). This must be a reason why it's $159.00, they just make it up at A1 service. Nothing comes free I guess.

What do you expect from a stealership, oh I mean dealership.

Don't tell them to do "6000 mile maintenance". Every dealership has their own "package" designed to rob the customers. Tell them what items you want them to do. Like oil change, replace air filter, etc.

One time I was bored enough to read an advertisement from a local Toyota dealer for 30k, 60k, 90k maintenance packages. I went thru them item by item, did some calculatieon. It turned out that it's even cheaper if I do it item by item, instead of the "package". Don't be a victim of it.

There is nothing to be inspected for a 6000 mile new car. And, NTB will do free tire rotation. And, you can find a local shop that will do oil change under $20. If you got the free coupon, ask for that service only so they can not use that couple as a bait to shake big money out from you.

The higher price is all labor cost. They charge an arm and a leg for it.

There are many, many threads on this subject.

The 6,000 miles "inspection" should be limited to an oil change and filter.

Should be less than $40.

Tim and I were talking about this recently. We laughed that my local dealer charges 9 dollars for testing audio system. and 20 dollars for lubing hinges and locks. Do what is required in your manual, not what is recommended by the dealer.

I just finished the A1 service at 6487 miles. I can do it myself because I have the know-how, the tools, and the desire to do the work correctly without making a mess and stinking up the truck with dirty oil burning off the exhaust pipe.

I also do-it-myself to save money. I paid $10.68 for 5 quarts of Castrol 5W20, and about $6 for a new Fram oil filter. Total spent less than $17, and the filter isn't even required for A1 service.

I will rotate the tires at every other oil change if they show uneven wear.

Save your money! Dealer service is for people with handicaps. (physical, mental or skill)

+1, do it yourself if you have the mechanical knowledge....very easy to do, and by doing it yourself there is no doubt it will be done correctly.

Since I don't own the tools for an oil change, I'll get them to do the oil & filter change, but will rotate the tires myself... hey, a dollar saved is a dollar earned! (and that's an after-tax dollar!)

You don't need that many tools, just a box wrench for the drain plug, I can unscrew the oil filter by hand, but if this is the first change, they are usually tighter than normal and sometimes require a filter wrench. The only other stuff you need, is a pan to drain the oil into, a container to pour the used oil into, and a funnel for the new oil. Piece of cake.....

True, maybe a couple of ramps to drive it up onto... what about warranty? Any issues there? And how do you reset the oil service maintenance minder?
