This is something that I feel is unacceptable in a $40,000 plus vehicle - I've owned my MDX for about 4 months now, and very now and again upon start up, a whine comes from the power steering when turning the wheel. It only happens on initial startup - mostly when its cold outside (as is the case in nothern NJ these past few months). The last car that did this was a mid 70's Olds when I was back in college and its really starting to chap my a**.
The oil life is showing about 40% so it'll be going back to the dealership for its first service soon - anyone else experience this ??

Sorry, Sterling, I haven't heard any kind of power steering whine on my car. I'm in Chicago, and we had one hell of a winter, so there was definitely enough cold weather to hear it, if that is a factor.
Temperature has actually dropped again. I'll make a special to listen over the next few days and get back. |

| I have a 2007 MDX. I had to have my P/S pump replaced. The whine would get worse the colder the temp and after driving on the freeway. After the pump was replace the problem went away. The dealer had to order the pump which took about a month. |

| Thanks guys. Will most likely bringing it in for its first service in the next month or so and I'll mention it to them - and since it will most likely be May (and warm) - with my luck - they will not be bale to reproduce it. |

Cold does really weird things to cars. I have an '06 MB C350. When it gets a bit chilly outside, down to around 45 degrees F, the sunroof won't close all the way unless I hold the button down. It's like the grease gets too cold, causes too much friction and the sensor thinks your neck/hand is in the way!
Why do I open the sunroof when it's cold? Well I sometimes like to have all my windows/sunroof open at night, the heater on, and blast some tunes. :D I guess I'm just a hooligan like that. |

I dunno Sterling, if I were you I'd take it in now while it's making the noise somewhat reliably, so in case the pump needs to be replaced you won't have any issues getting it done under warranty. IMO, no modern vehicle should be making this sort of noise with as few miles on the clock as your X, regardless of price.
FWIW, my '07 with 7,000 miles and one winter under its belt doesn't make any undue noises from the power steering pump.
