Hi,
Has anyone purchased a smart key for their 2006 MDX? I know they come with the newer models of MDX's and RDX's, but see they are available on ebay for a 2006 model (if this is true).
Just wanted to know if they are easy to program and if so, how you would go about getting a key cut so it fits the vehicle properly.
Any recommendations on where to buy would be great too, if anyone has experience.

| I didn't even know a Smart Key was available on the 07 MDX. If you mean a key with a chip in it, yeah all MDX's have that, but if you mean keyless start, only the current RL among Acuras has it that I know of. |

Not the remote start, but a key fob that has the key and controls on the same device (if you've ever seen a VW key, this would be clear).

| Yeah that big honkin' key is what I have on my 07. I don't think it's available for 06 though. |

| yes, you can buy them, but I am not sure if they work with the transponder and the alarm with the 01-06 MDX. You can buy them from www.flbusa.com and these keys are custom milled so it can fit into the keyhole. |

| NO, NO, AND NO. It won't work. Got a milled key, worked fine, but will not work with the immobilizer or the keyless entry. I tried. Failed miserably and out of $150 total. |

Did you try an Acura made one or an aftermarket? |

Acura made. I tried both the MDX and TL keys, neither worked of course. |

It did not work? Does you key, the factory one have a V stamped into it? If so, the immoblizer is the same and it will work, but the remote will most likely not work, you will need an RDX one as it has no trunk button. |

Not at all. The keyless entry and immobilizer was redesign in 07 for all Acura/Honda models. The 01-06s MDX have separate keyless module behind the glove box and the immobilizer at the ignition switch. All 07-08s, it is one whole module at the ignition switch. Bypassing the immobilizer by removing the transponder from a key or using a loop is easy, it just the keyless entry are different freqs between the earlier years and the 07-08 models. So the RDX one wouldn't work either. Not having the keyless functions defeats the purpose of the mod. |
