I bought an 08 MDX with Tech & Entertainment two months ago. Last weekend, one of my sons complained that the audio suddenly cut out on the wireless headphones he was using. We got home, shut the car off, and after awhile, they were worked for a little bit, then cut out again. We had the dealer pick up the car, but when they checked it, there were no problems. The dealer brought the car back, and on the next trip, the headphones cut out again.
I have seen several posts here about headphones not working, but none of them have had the exact same problem we have had. First, the aux jacks in the rear of the console work when the wireless headphones don't, so it doesn't seem to be a failure of the entire rear audio system. Second, no audio comes through the headphones when they aren't working (no CD, no XM, no AM/FM) so the problem seems isolated to the rear audio. Third, both sets of headphones cut out simultaneously, so it doesn't seem to be a headphone problem. And finally, in all cases, the headphones work for awhile, say 10 to 20 minutes, then cut out and stop working completely.
I'm guessing that the IR transmitter is having a problem, but I'd be interested to hear any other suggestions. Also, I haven't seen how any of the problems in the other posts were resolved. The car is at the dealer again (and has been for two days), but, of course, they haven't been able to replicate the problem. They've given me a loaner, but I'm getting more than a little annoyed with this. |

It's the remote control cable that runs from the dash (ent. sys) to the rear entertainment sys.
I had precisely the same problem and since the cable has been replaced (last october) it's been perfect.
I had to wait well over a month for the replacement cable. It's the same cable that's used in the Honda Odyssey's and they were in short supply last summer/fall.
While you're there make sure they run the software update on your entertainment system to cure the problem with discs ejecting upon starting/shutting off the ignition (if you've experienced that also). |

We had the very same issue. The wireless headphones would work great when we got in the car in the morning. We would drive to an event, park the vehicle in the parking lot and when we returned the wireless headphones did not work. I started to notice that this only happened on hot days. Car is in the garage in the morning (cool and headphones worked), Hot sun in the afternoon (hot and no wireless in either headphone set). Moved the car back to the garage and 10 minutes of cooling off, the headphones both worked again.
We were actually able to reproduce this (cold, hot, cold) failure mode at the dealer.
They ended up replacing the whole ceiling mounted unit, the one with the infrared senders) but as far as I know, no cables were replaced between the dash system and the ceiling unit.
So far it has been working like a charm. The dealer has sent the failed unit back to Acura corp. to figure out what when wrong, although I still suspect some sort of thermal failure.
Hope this helps with your diagnosis. |

| I'm surprised they didn't try replacing that cable first. The dealer told me at the time that if the cable didn't do the trick that they'd replace the ceiling unit. Luckily it didn't come to that. |
