Any Side molding (BSM) alternatives out there? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi

Is it just me, or is the general design an placement of the OEM BSMs pretty useless?
They don't protrude far enough, and they're positioned at the lowest points on the door profiles! After 6 months of miraculously avoiding door dings, I got 'em in stereo (! $%#@) last week.

Any 3rd party designs out there that might provide some actual protection?

Maybe something that would take a line from the wheel arches (which also protrude enough to protect the $%#& BSMs!)? My lil' old GTi had a slightly better design, and they saved me from numerous hits (as evidenced by the collection of scratches and paint-scrapes on the BSMs).

Try a set of running boards, they tend to extend just enough for a door not to make contact with a door.

My X is living proof that the BSMs are all show and no go (dings galore...). I do like the way they break up the slab sides, but there's no denying that they should be larger and placed higher up.

Good luck finding a 3rd-party alternative to the OEMs, but I have a feeling that you're stuck like the rest of us.

I think he has sport running boards on his. Door dings are just a part of life. :3:

Russ - I feel your !$%#@ pain! Almost four months to the day I bought my X, some low-life, s#@* eating, ball-less weasel f%#$ing P.O.S. whacked their door into my RR door. Result - me still seething 2 days later and wishing all kinds of evil be visited upon that turd and a nice crease about 2 inches high that catches the sun (and my eye) everytime I walk up to my X.

No matter how far out you park from where ever you are going, there is always one jackarse close by. About a month back, I parked way (and I mean WAY) out all by myself in the furthest corner of a huge store lot. Come out not even an hour later to find that someone in a POS parked RIGHT NEXT TO ME. Luckily enough - there wasnt any damage but what makes someone park their 10 year wreck right next to a new (just washed/waxed - looked friggin' awesome) car ?

Everyone who doesn't live in NJ should thank us for having an inordinately high percentage of mouth-breathing idiots - why they are attracted to NJ I still haven't figured out.

The good news is that it's pretty cheap to have dings popped out. I had six dings on two doors, and two scratches that had to be painted. Acura brought in their ding guy, and did all of it for $325. The painting was the most expensive part.

Hi guys!

Thanks for all the sympathy! I see I'm not alone in my dislike (OK, OK,... loathing!) of folk who are so inconsiderate, careless, etc.

Just so you can get a grin out of this, I was sitting in my X yesterday (getting some work done on my notebook while my wife took a run around the park (my excuse was a bum leg!), wen some skinny b**ch in the RX350 we parked next to opened her door into my car. You should have seen the look on her face when I smacked the inside of the window to inform her tha the car was inhabited, and then scrambled around to that side and asked her what the hell she was doing (as I photo'ed her license plate!!)? (No visible damage in that instance, but it was so neat to see the reaction!)

BTW, I DO have the Sports running boards (SRB's).

If I find anything, I will be sure to post info.

Sucks that you had someone hit your door and you were there to be a witness. And you'd think they would be more careful with them having a nice car too. :3:
