| hi everyone, this is my first time posting so i dont know how to add pictures and stuff yet. I am 18 years old and my mom owns an MDX which im gona probably get in a year or less lol... I have been fooling around with cars since i was young... i have installed audio systems for friends and even for my old 1994 Murcury Villager lol. I was awarded third place in the Toronto Automotive Technology Competiton in 2008 and the guys that won first place went to new york to compete for the nationals... they won first there and won sh**load of stuff... i think the total prize was around $250,000... anywho... I am a high school student and i do have access to Shopkey and OnDemand. I have lots of tools and have access to a shop (school has a huggeeeee auto shop and uncle has small mechanic shop). The MDX is a 2003 touring. I installed an overhead monitor and a dvd player in the little cargo area (like underneath the lid in the trunk). What i really wanna do is swap the trip comptuer with a factory nav unit... i know i can do it and i know at least one person has done it. i will be recording and taking pictures of the whole process and will post the pictures on this website and the videos on youtube so everyone who ever wanted to do it will be able to. I will be doing all this work in mid june, but for a project like this i want to have everything planned so i dont screw anything up. I have the schematics for the mdx with the nav... but i cant seem to find the schematics for the trip computer thats in there already... can anyone help me out with that? I will purchase all the parts from ebay/junk yard and will calculate a total and write down all the parts that i needed. this way, everyone will be able to do it on their own car. i might need a little help along the way (advice and whatnot) so id really appreciate any help i get. well thanks for listening and if anyone can point me in the direction of a trip computer schematic id appreciate it. Wish I could help, it is quite an undertaking... you may want to look at some velcro and a Garmin... a lot less effort and cost :)

i had given this a lot of thought. i had spent a lot of time reading all the other posts that talk about this. i wud have went with a garmin or soemthing but i wanted a cleaner look... i even thought about putting it in the little space between the "not an ashtray" and the trim around the shifter, but i use that space for other stuff... usually the dvd player remote sits in there and a ton of other stuff. i think this shud cost me 1000-2000 dollars, which is in the ballpark of the avic-n4. i thought about getting that but then realized that it wud be too much trouble for my mom to switch the nav dvd and her music back and forth. so i really want to do this swap instead of going with an aftermarket nav/dvd

No, I haven't tried anything like this, nor would I be inclined to... I spent too much on the car :)
Though back in the day, I used to tinker a lot like you are doing.

I have a MDX 2003 and in the process of performing the same swap. I have purchase the NAV Screen and the DVD-ROM Unit (on ebay). I have been verifying the difference in components and wiring (searching on a OEM parts site) where the following differences are identified: Nav System--> No Compass, Nav System --> 4 diferent wire hardness (i can share). I thank you for the Nav Schematics which will help identifying additional differences and/or possible leverage with existing components.
I understand that we can team up to perform the swap.

i dont have the wire diagram for the trip computer, which i think will be very important in the swap. im trying to look thru OnDemand and ShopKey for it but so far had no luck... theres also a nav control unit underneath the passenger seat... i dont know if thats there with just the trip computer. i really wanna do this swap... maybe its just to feel like i accomplished something or maybe its just for fun but either way i believe i can help someone out there thats trying to do this. oh and can u send me some of the oem sites that you've searched please.
i want to take a look at an mdx with the nav option so i can look at exactly where the components or anything that might help in this swap... |

im in school right now and i found the schematic iv been looking for. i got the computer data lines schematic and the multi-information display schematic (trip computer). as soon as i get home ill scan them and put them on skydrive. again, any help would be appreciated. i understand all the schematics so if u need help just ask. if anyone has any information on this swap that might be useful in any way, please share. thanks in advance
