Just wondering if any of you have any comments on the sport perforated vs. the standard leather.

Do you like one better than the other and why?

Do you think one would be cooler than the other in warm climates?

Does one hold up better than the other? or easier to keep clean?

Any other comments you may have.

I have the standard leather and I have no complaints about it. In fact I prefer it over the perforated leather since if there are any spills, I don't have to worry about it seeping into the seat. We have a one-year-old right now, and I forsee plenty of opportunities for stuff spilling onto the seat! My wife's previous car (Acura TL-S), had the perforated leather, and I couldn't say that it was any better...if anything, it felt "cheaper." I think people perceive the perforated leather as being softer since the perforations actually allow the leather to flex and conform to your body more, but the leather itself is probably not any better quality.

interesting, I have a 2 year old and a baby due in May so spills can definitely happen.

I guess I just figured there was something behind/underneath the perforated leather to prevent spills from entering the actual foam of the seat. Is that not the case?

+2.

I have both, standard leather (MDX) & perf leather (ES350), so I know their exact characteristic. ES350 needs to be perf because of their cooling seats system. The X doesn't have one.... When spraying/cleaning/conditioning the leather with lexol, the perf leather got me worried all the time. How? Why? I could (time after time) end up clogging up those AIR HOLES so called perf leather.

To be honest, I don't see much benefit to the perforated leather in the Sport, in spite of the fact that I have one. Yes, the "Milano" hides used are softer than the ones in the non-Sports, but that's about it. Aesthetically, I think they look better, but then I'm used to perforated leather from my Benzes, past and present, so I'm probably conditioned to think that way.

As for maintenance, my E420's seats look terrific after 11 years of use and abuse, so I wouldn't be too worried about keeping the little holes clean. It's been my experience that even if they do get bunged up with crap, eventually it goes away of it's own accord; whether into the seat or an alternate universe I couldn't tell you.

Adam

I don't know if there is anything that separates the leather from the foam in the MDX, but I read on a post on a G35 forum about a guy who's dog sh1t all over his seat and it ended up soaking into the foam! Needless to say, no matter what he did, he could not get the smell of dog sh1t out from his car!!

I'm def not a fan of perforated leather...esp since it has the potential of allowing spilled substances to seep through into the foam. Also I've seen in my dad's old MDX and my wife's old TL-S, that little threads seem to stick out from the holes after some time, giving it a ratty appearance.

I'm not sure if the leather quality is better on the sport, but it does feel a bit more comfortable may be because it stretches more when you sit on it.
I do think it doesn't get hot as much on hot summer days with the perf. leather though.

We have sport package, when we received a rental MDX when our car went in for accessory installation, we both noticed a big difference in the comfort of the seats, not remembering we had the sport package. The sport package is definitely much more comfortable that the non-sport.
