I know that most folks on this board do not like this type of mods. But I'm getting bored and love that rumbling sound when I start my car in the garage. I wants to free up my engine and let it roar in a deep rumble. Nothing RICE sounding but High Tech German or V8 sound.

Anyone did it? What muffler you went with?
And the most important part $$$ and anyone performance decrease?
I want to keep my throttle responsive. Last thing I need is having to revving my engine or down shifting all the time.

I've done a lot of Honda cat-back and CAI on a lot of different models, but IMO the exhaust on the new X would be very hard to improve. Looks like a highly engineered free flowing unit. You might gain better sound, but very likely lose performance.

I have a K&N panel in the stock airbox which definitely gives better throttle response and deeper intake roar. seriously considering a CAI with open filter. I'll bet it would sound mean as hell and might even gain a few more HP. Also a fraction of the cost of a good quality exhaust system. Better bang for the buck.

I concur with the CAI route. I wanted the same effect as you, so I ripped out the filter box and replaced it with a CAI and K&N cone filter. I can tell a slight increase in performance but, that was enough to get that deep throaty sound I was looking for. I love the sound when it hits 2nd and 3rd gears! :29:

the factory exhaust is pretty free flowing for a stock one. You would need to do flow testing and stuff to get a full good system. Also the system on the MDX is dual stage, at low RPM's it creates back pressure for low end torque, but at higher it opens up for more HP.

The OEM exhaust system does look amazing when compare to most of the cars out there. It look aftermarket already. I guess I'll have to go with CAI first. That way I won't regret it later when my exhaust job turn to crap.

I had not heard this before. Have I been missing something? Where did you get this information from?

Not quite dual stage with like cut-outs and stuff, it was talked about in the aftermarket exhaust thread

Then what exactly is dual stage?
