I'm thinking I may have to special order the MDX I want. I am only interested in a certain combo in the sport/ent model.

How long does it usually take from order to arriving at the dealership? I'm guessing 8-12 weeks. Can anyone speak from experience?

A lot will depend on the dealership and their inventory turnover but 2-3 months sounds about right. You could have them hunt down one for you as well if you didn't want to wait.

cool thanks for the info.

I have to start the quoting process first, I'm guessing it is best just to have the dealers quote based on the Sport/Ent model rather then a specific color. Once I get to a number I'm happy with then I can work out all the colors and other specifics right?

Sounds good. Depending on the color, though, you may have to wait longer. That's one thing nice about Acura. With everything standard on their models you really are just picking out colors from the factory. Good luck!

Thats is right gator.... negotiate and finalize the price for the X including the accesories you want. Keep the color/leather as your last request.

I had the same issue with my dealer, I was very specific bout the color/leather i wanted but i finalized the price before i raised my requirement. They said it would take an additinal 1% to get the car from a diff dealership since they didnt have one in their inventory. Eventually i did not pay that extra. 8-12 weeks is what they say but usually they might get it within 2 weeks from a different dealership. I got mine in 10 days, that depends on how many of them are close by in your area.

Well this doesn't always work. Typically a deal is made on a specific vehicle on the lot. Because of mileage variances and cost of shipping a specific vehicle from another dealer, the dealer may not be willing to negotiate the same deal for a vehicle not on their lot.

I have seen this with the Sport model. Dealer had 2 on his lot with the same equpipment but had 2 different prices. One of them was the Dark Cherry Pearl which was priced cheaper than the one in Formal Black....

These were both 2008 CPO vehicles with about the same miles, not sure if this would translate to a new vehicle though..

good luck! Special orders are not always filled. Acura will only build a vehicle if their is enough "like" vehicles being ordered. I tried to have my dealer order an 08 sport/ent in steel blue/taupe twice and both times Acura kicked out the order due to low volume requests. Sports are not that popular and the exterior color is not that popular, eventhough the combination is readily available in the brochure and website.
Unlike most American vehicles, Acura will only build what they think will sell regardless of what they advertise.
Spoke with the GMs at 2 dealers and both checked with the regional and gave the same response that Acura has the final say, and will only build if their are 20 vehicles in model/color/combo requested.

Ended up with a tech/ent.....love it, but would of liked the perf leather and magnetic susp

What color are you looking for? You may need to search other dealerships and be willing to make the drive to one that is not in your area. I had to get mine out of state.

That could be true cause my dealer said the same thing. But he got my car from a different dealer at the same price we had negotiated. I guess that the deal he made with me already covered his addl expense

First fix the options and price then go for the color.

Usually, they will get the car from a dealer in the neighboring cities or states.

If it close by (100 mile radius) then it can be driven - if its far away ask for faltbed transport.

Sometimes they ask for $200-300 extra but in this economic climate they should throw it in.

I had to order my '04 from the factory, because of color/trim combo. It took a tad less than 4 weeks from order to delivery. The dealer emailed me the day production was scheduled. When production is scheduled the factory assigns the VIN, production start date, ship date, and arrival date at local depot. All this info was in the email message. The car arrived exactly on schedule with the previously assigned VIN. Dealer delivered car the day after depot delivery.

The entire transaction was completed entirely with emails, except I did go down to the dealer to deliver the deposit check ($1000) in person to save a couple of days vs mailing the check. I suppose I could have even done that step electronically also.

Frankly, I was absolutely taken with all the dealer did to keep me informed, and deliver the car. Could not have been a better buying experience.
