| This is just me venting - so thanks for indulging me. About a month ago we bought a 2004 Acura MDX from a nearby Honda dealership. First thing we notice is that the console is rattling and that the memorized seating is not working properly. Take it back in - they fix the rattle, but inform me that the seat is working fine - it was not. It would not recognize the back/forth positions - after getting the sales guys to agree that it was not working, they shipped off the vehicle to a local Acura dealer to replace the seat base. I get the vehicle back, drive it home and notice that a warning light has been on the whole time. It seems as though they forgot to re-engage the seat belt/air bags safety mechanism - back to the dealership, and another day without the MDX. Then last Thursday, the battery was flat out dead - it is a new battery, so I am concerned that there is some problem. Take it back to the Honda dealer on the Friday and they confirm that there is indeed a parasitic power draw on the battery. They can't find it however and will need to keep it over weekend to get it looked after Monday. It is now Wednesday and they still have no idea what is causing the problem. Day 6 without our vehicle. ARRGGHHH!!! |

| Just got off the phone with the Honda dealer - it would appear that they have tracked down the parasitic load- two different aftermarket components were installed 1) A remote car starter - which apparently was not designed for use in the MDX according to the Service Manager and 2) a GPS tracking unit - it had its own battery that failed and was continually trying to re-charge off the main batery. Say they should have the vehicle back to me tomorrow as it will likely take several hours to put all the wiring back in place.:banghead: |

| Wow, sorry to hear you had so many issues. Hopefully you'll get it back in no time. Other than those weird problems you encountered, the 04 is a solid choice. |

Rotto, I am just curious if they are going to charge you for the work since it was aftermarket accessories causing the issue, or if the dealer was going to cover it since they recently sold you the vehicle. I assume no cost to you.
Regarding the battery, as an fyi, I just learned something. I have an 05 X that I took to the dealer this morning for a final service before the factory warranty expires and to have some nav display issues addressed. The service tech said the cause of the display issues may be low battery voltage (original battery since 7/05) and if it is they will replace under warranty. He said full battery replacement warranty is 4 years, regardless of mileage.
Also, by the way, they gave me a new RDX to drive. Very peppy, but to me rides no better than my son's 03 Element. |

Confirmed prior to the work that indeed this would be no cost to me -which is a good thing as they have now had the vehicle for five shop days. I would hate to know how many man hours they put into this thing! A few things working in my favour 1) Recent purchase 2) Reputable dealership 3) The fact that they sold me a vehicle with features they did not know about, nor that I wanted.
Hope to get it back today. |
