Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like the paint on the X is sprayed very thin. It doesn’t take much for a chunk of paint to go missing, and now I am in the need of some touch-up paint.
Do the dealerships generally carry touch-up paint? Or, would it be a special-order item?
… I am in need of Formal Black…. |

Dealership would have the paint.
I tried to get the paint mail-order thinking I could save some money only to find out Paint is a hazardous material and cannot be shipped by mainy of the on-line shops including the sponser of these forums. |

Honda corporation does not use Lead paint on their vehicle for respect for the environment so yes they have "weak" painted vehicles prone to chips easly, other than that they make IMPREssIVE vehicles....
Dealerships have touch up paint....That is the first thing I buy with my new Acura's.....:1:
Another reason the buy the complete bra regardless how ugly or poorly fit, it does the job of protecting your hood and bumper which is the prone areas......Take it off when you do Sunday driving as I go with my RL. Of course the RL gets the most layers of paint of the batch.....:4: |

| Thanks for the helpful insight. I will make a point to drive down to the dealership today. I am not disappointed about a few specs of paint missing, although I do realize now that Acura does indeed hold back a bit with their paint and/or paint mix for various reasons. Needless to say, the many other superior features of the X outweigh the fact that there are a few white dots here and there. |

If you were using Zaino you would minimize those "white chip" dots......Z5 or Z2 leaves NO white residue.....
I didn't get the bra for my MDX. I've read that it was not a good fit. Perhaps they have improved it. Something about the hood part flapping at high speeds....in that case the bottom part is still good to have esp. on long trips. That is when I have mine on the RL for the most part.... |

| I just wanted to say that our MDX '07 Acura paint is TERRIBLE also. We only have 8,000 miles on it and we have chips on the back (I honestly have no idea how they got there) and some chips on the side. I park this car far out in the lot and walk since it is so wide. I am totally not impressed with the paint at all. |

Yeah I feel the same way. I always make a point to park far far away and walk the extra steps to my destination. I am worried as to what it will look like in say...5 years?
I travel to the beach a lot, so I think a lot of mine are from stones on the highway. But, I can never be too sure. All I know is that they are not "door dings"... they are from something else. |

| This is sad, but true: We have a 1999 Subaru outback which I have owned since I lived in Tahoe (salt, rocks, snow, muud, etc), I now live in the suburbs in the bay area and it looks better than my Acura. My Acura lives in the garage (Soobie does not) My Acura gets washed at least once a month (Soobie is never washed) and the Acura has only been to Tahoe once. My average speed on the Acura is 28 mph...pathetic, but we bought it for diving around our area and hauling our kids. I just think their paint is terrible and it is sad since it was such a huge investment. Both the Subaru and the Acura are the same color too. |

| I've read about consumers complaining about their paint job on their Honda's/Acura's for YEARS now......not a new issue.........If you want lead paint, thick then you'll have to buy a MB or BMW and pay 20k extra.......Your subaru doesn't have all the technologies the MDX has so its not a fair comparison. You get alot of "bang for the bucks" with regards to the MDX. We can't get it all for less/nothing....:1: |

| It is true that my Acura is nothing like the Subaru in many ways; however, I paid A LOT more for the Acura and I expect to get A LOT more out of it. I would think that a $40,000+ Acura (with 8,000miles on it) would have better paint than a $18,000+ Subaru (with 120,000 miles on it). I think paint is extremely important and I am sorry that Acura does not feel the same way. Btw, we had a Honda accord EX with 250,000+ miles on it with less paint chips than this Acura. We actually sold it and bought the Acura. I do love my Acura, but I think they could work on the paint. |

There seems to be a general consensus among detailers that Honda/Acura's clearcoat is exceptionally soft, which may contribute to this perceived weakness in the paint.
FWIW, my '07 which was purchased last September doesn't have any chips yet (dings yes, chips no), but given the relatively small amount of snowfall we received this winter, there wasn't a whole lot in the way of road salt and sand to get kicked up on the roads. We'll see how well I fare next winter. That said, my wife's old '98 Accord (we sold it a couple of months ago) seemed to hold up pretty well considering her decidedly casual approach to car care.

| I just have to say it's LIGHT YEARS BETTER than the paint on my previous Lexus RX330. I had way more chips on the hood on my Lexus than I've experienced in the same miles on my MDX. Having black cars over and over, I've learned to just take the chips as they come :) |
