for a truck that's 45k, you would think acura would put on chrome tire valve caps on the x.... but lo and behold, i checked when i picked up the car a month ago that it had the cheap black plastic ones... tsk tsk tsk tsk acura...

that is all.....
Dishoom
what $45k car comes with chrome caps? besides, if you can afford a $45k, then you should have no problem dropping a few bucks on the chrome caps you desire.
kdfdawg
my 30k infiniti came with chrome caps... i'm not saying i can't afford it.. i'm saying it's stupid they don't just put it on there to begin with!!!!!

My ES350 came with 4 heavy high quality chrome valve caps. I love them so much, now they're on my X. Kinda match-up with the X's rims too.

gotcha...i did think it was odd that the previous generation MDX, models with TPMS came with metal caps, but now they don't.

Must be a new phenomenon since my '97 E420 came with plain, old black plastic caps.

As far as non-issues go, this has to take the cake...

hahahah.. i know it's a non-issue... i guess i'm just throwing out something else that acura cut corners with.

I suppose. Frankly, it's the omission of the rain-sensing wipers that's got me a bit bugged. Oh, and the fact that the new Honda Pilot Touring comes with seamless iPod connectivity, but Acura can't seem to get it straight in the MDX.

my wife's biggest gripe about the mdx is the lack of ipod integration... she's always telling me that I do the driving, and she controls the music... she actually hits my hand away from the controls when we're in the car together!!!

I buy these nifty aluminum ones with Acura's logo's I got off the internet years ago....I have them on my RL and MDX.....Just make sure the thiefs don't steal them or ricers at the Sealerships...

Got a friend who is in the business of selling Nitrogen Tire filling system and they provide chromed metal valve caps with each filling they do.

About 2 month ago they did this VW Phaeton and with all the road salts used up here the valve caps seized on the stem and the mechanic broke the stem trying to remove it to repair a flat.

The valve stem included TPMS sensor like our MDX but they cost $475 each--- (ouch!).

They replace the Valve/TPMS assembly and replaced all the valve caps with black plastic caps.

If you do used chrome metal caps, better use a very light application of an anti-seize compound to prevent the cap from seizing up on the valve stem.

California climate prevents such happenings you describe. I've never had an issue with them for the past 4 or so years.....NEVER over tighten anything is my philosophy! :1: :1:

The problem is also that the caps rust on after time, because regular joe thinks TPMS is good enough to check the tire pressure. I honestly don't mind the black caps, just another less thing to worry about getting stolen or breaking/replacing.
Fabvsix
Well rust is caused by moisture which we have little here (humidity). My RL has never seen rain or snow.....blue skies....When I wash her I dry her off with an electric leaf blower and make sure to get the rims completely dry....so again I don't have an issue with RUST in California.......:1:

I asked the dealer when I picked up the 08 MDX why the plastic cap instead of the metallic/chrome ones in the showroom. His answer was the same as above - they seized up due to the salt/corrosion. The nice shiny ones in the showroom is for show only.

I guess it's just you & me Fab. The X parks inside garage. At work parks either under a covered parking or underground. There is never any salt on the road, there is rarely any rain. Rust? ... now that might take decades.

I'd think that rust is everywhere, even on your new X right now, probably hiding on a screw somewhere on the undercarriage.

Years ago Acura issued a TSB replacing the factory MDX metal valve caps (painted to match the wheel color). They had problems with winter salt and mag chloride corrosion. Replacement caps were mailed to owners of offending caps in suspect regions of the country.

Pathology. an intermittent spasmodic pain in the bowels.

A gripe is a complaint in my book, I have much more important things
to worry about than about whether my valve caps are chrome or not, please, let"s not bring up the west coast, east coast thing.

I dont know if I'm a being anal, but a few things about my mdx really vexes me,
1. i can hear the body creak (very slightly) when accelerating or breaking
2. use of plastic on the inside as compared to leather
3. gear changes arent as smooth as expected

but i still love my MDX :):)

but i still love
