Are you asking whether or not there is a release button inside the car, or whether or not it's possible to open the rear hatch from the outside without a key?
In my case, since I have the Entertainment package, my MDX has a power liftgate that is controlled by a button next to the fuel-filler door release, as well as a button on my key. However, it can still be opened and closed manually from the outside by means of a small lever that is concealed above the license plate. I would assume that this is how MDXs without the power liftgate operate. As to whether or not non-Entertainment package MDXs have a release button inside the car, I don't know but somehow I doubt it. I mean really, what's the point since you're still going to have open and closet the liftgate manually anyway?

gwadhwani... depends on what trim you got.
I have a Tech trim. This does not have a automatic release button (inside the car or in the key as craniotes mentioned). The trunk needs to be manually opened by using the lever in the license plate. |

| In addition to the above, there is no key hole on the tailgate so the doors must be unlocked (all doors and not just the drivers) and the release button as stated is above the license plate. |

Thanks Guys,, I have the Base Model.. I was looking for the release button In the car, couldn't find it..
Don't you think that the release button for the trunk should be available no matter what trim you brought.. besides (pressing the lever to open all doors )
After all this is a Luxury SUV...
Thanks |

Again, what would the point be? Even if you could release the liftgate from inside the vehicle, someone is still going to have to go around to the back and open and close the door manually. As such, it would take just as much effort to do it themselves by pulling the release lever above the license plate.
Yes, I know that cars have had this feature for years, but even then there were times that I questioned its usefulness, like with my E420, which has a button on the trunk that allows you to open it without a key. In the case of my wife's old Accord, however, it made sense since the only way to open the trunk was with the key (there's no release lever or button on the trunk of the '98 Accord sedan).

They are planning to include the power-tailgate on all trims from '09 model. Thats part of the upgrade (marketing) strategy. :) |

Actually, the power liftgate will come standard with the 2009 Tech package (which means that by extension all 2009 Sport models will have it as well), but the Base models will still have to make do with good ol' fashioned elbow grease.

The Acura dealer I visited several days ago told me the power lift gate will be offered as a stand alone option for the 2009 base MDX.
Now if only they wouldn't get the "wood" trim from the faux-rest.

Good to know, powders.
However, what I'd really like to know is if the USB iPod connection featured in the new RL and Pilot Touring will be offered in 2009, and if so, whether or not it can be retrofitted to the 2007/8's.

Give them time, Adam. Eventually, they will get it right. Could also use a good 6 speed automatic transmission to improve the mpg.
But by not offering a power lift gate as standard across the board in 2007 and 2008 models, along with being decorated with a special wood trim grown in the unique Acura faux-rest, shows that Acura has a way to go to be taken seriously at the top in luxury vehicles.
One of the Acura big-wigs recently said they are aiming to get to the luxury top in a few years time. I hope it doesn't take fauxever.
Whatever they do, I hope they don't change the driver's seat! That is the best!
Anyhow, my 545i lease is up in July and I am already working out at the gym on the arms and shoulders to get me ready for the manual lift gate. I want to be ready!:2: |

and I actually like the faux wood trim! I think the pattern is nice and the colour is great. So much better than the orangey coloured fake wood I see in most vehicles. |

Yes. The MDX "wood" is better-looking than most. I take it you are referring to the nauseating phony orange-wood found in Toyota vehicles. So tasteless.
If manufacturers can't or won't do real wood, why not have a nice brushed aluminum look? |

Eh, the plood suits me just fine. Sure, real wood would be nice, but in the end it doesn't make or break the interior. No, all I really need is true iPod connectivity and I'm all set.
As far as Acura being taken seriously as a luxury marque, I could care less what the public perception is. As it stands now, my Sport/Entertainment is about as luxurious as I can tolerate, and seeing as how my son is now able to kick my seatback, the interior is going to look like the inside of an NYC subway car before long anyhow.
Acura, just give me a damn iPod kit that works and I'm a happy camper.

I agree, the wood doesn't bother me really, just the dusting, but that is normal esp. on the fake black wood. But the IPOD is what I want, the new pilot, RL and TSX have that usb port, give the MDX one standard across all model TL, TSX, RL, MDX and RDX and you will shine. Also that 6sp automatic would be nice, but hopefully they can get the bugs worked out of the SH-AWD system that leads to a 32% power loss to the wheels. That means the MDX only gets about 204 WHP and 187 WTQ, that's less than a 3.2TL. |

i don't really mind my liftgate being not powered, but i wish that it closes pneumatically, so i don't have to half-slam it every time i close it.
as for the fake wood trim, i think it is pretty decent, and would anybody have really known if acura did not disclose it was fake wood without detaching the piece itself? i think honda went that route as part of their green campaign, and if that was so, then i salute them.
at least i think it looks better than the real wood that some manufacturers put in their vehicles. |

Funny you should mention Toyota, that's exactly who I was thinking of when I wrote my post! |

Given that the MDX is as fast as, if not faster than most of its direct competition with similar power-to-weight ratios (including the V8-powered XC90), either your figures are off, or pretty much every AWD system is sapping the same amount of power from their respective engines. Honestly, I have a hard time believing that 204hp is enough to lug a 4500lb vehicle to 60mph in 7 seconds flat, or 100mph in under 20 seconds (C&D figures).
Of course, since we're on the subject, the new FX50 can sprint to 60 in 5 seconds flat, and hit 100mph in 12.4 seconds according to C&D.
Whoa.
I guess Infiniti worked the bugs out of their system, huh?

With the correct gearing I have no problem with the 60mph in 7 seconds. Might be a little skeptical on the 100mph.

Hey, if you don't believe me, go look it up at caranddriver.com.
Who knows, perhaps they received a ringer? In any case, pretty much every other magazine has tested the 2nd generation MDX within a half a second of the numbers I posted, and more to the point, these numbers are similar to ones posted by vehicles with similar power-to-weight ratios which leads me to believe that they're not out of line with what one should expect.
Now the first generation MDX... Yeah, it takes a little longer to build up a similar head of steam, but it can still cruise comfortably at superlegal speeds (not that we condone that sort of behavior 'round these parts).
