My friend and I were changing my front rotors (2001 MDX Touring) and encountered the two phillips head screws that just won't budge. We drilled them out. Looking at the screws though, we couldn't figure out their function.

Is it important to replace them? What the heck are they for, and how were we supposed to have removed them?

They hold the brake rotors on to the hubs during vehicle assembly, and have no use afterwards.....

Did you try PB Blaster and an impact wrench to loosen the machine screws? If the circumstances are right heat can also be used.
