hi
on my 07 mdx,
was wondering if any knew specifically where the 'head' that is side curtain airbags pop out from?
Is it the black rubber moulding around the windows? I am guessing not as the airbag looks in the manual like a continious curtain so perhaps not
thanks |

I believe that they pop out from the headliner, front pillar and rear pillar. As well, there is an explosive charge to lock the seatbelt that detonates (small) when the airbags deploy. |

Are you asking because you are worried about and infant seat?

I hope you're not thinking about a mod that could intersect with the airbags. Those things go blam when they go off.
I think the car makers decided to use the term "deploy" for airbags, rather than "deflagrate" or "explode", because it's better PR. |

Side curtains are not a worry with child restraints. The only ones that are a worry are the side torso bags and even then, as long as they meet a specific standard they shouldn't be a worry either. MB come standard with side torso bags in the rear and they meet the standard. A child in a restraint has much more side impact protection than a person not in a restraint due to the fact that their 5-point harness keeps them in position. In a regular seat belt, the body can be out of place or move out of place. This is the reason why booster seats or seat belts only are way less safe for children (okay, I'm starting to get off topic here!). |

just to close out the thread, i found my answer
just as a fyi someone here said the 'driver is most protected ' this is not true. Lots think this thou
Someone thought i might be doing a 'airbag' mod, egads no way (why would anyone think that double yikes).
Somone asked if i had a concern about child seats, i have no child seat interests.
Just needed to know exactly where the airbags deploy from and now i do
really appreciate all the help , I had a ham radio installed last week buy a stereo shop that used to be pretty good, and i saw they didn't do a lot of things correct, i started to question everything they did after i left the new owners seemed cut rate.
anyway so i seemed to remember the installers runnng my antenna cable along the upper headliner near the edge then i started to think a) hey isn't that where the airbags pop out from and b) did they run it in a place safe for the cable or not?
So i went to a good stereo shop and they took a quick look and showed me how the bags work, and u can see my antenna cable was all tangled up there
godforbid if there was an accident, no way they would have worked right or at all people could have died
so the place i went to actually re did the entire install even re ran unrelated wires from my radio because it wasn't done right and the guys spent 4hrs on my car they didn't even want to charge me ! but i took care of them
part of me want to sue the first stereo shop i am not a litigious guy but my friends, family or i could have been killed, i also ponder how many other cars did they do like this too? how many are they about to do ?
but i guess since nobody got hurt i really have nothing to sue for, prob i'll just write a letter advising them of what i found out so perhaps they will be more careful.
clearly what the first shop did was take the fast way out lots of people today have all sorts of mods done if you don't know the expertise of the guys and or supervise some of the modern day yet sensitive saftey devices can be easily compramised with diasterious results!!
thanks again |

| Wow, glad to see you got that issue taken care of. You should of posted this information in the beginning so we could understand you better. The other shop will probably continue to shortcut everything just to make there money. :3: |
