Got an oil change and now I have a question - Click HERE for Original Thread

First off I want to say this seems like a really nice forum. Well I purchased a 08 MDX back in Nov and truely love the truck. I got my first oil change at my dealer and when I got my truck home I checked to make sure the dipstick was back and the oil cap was put back on and also I checked the fliter and the oil plug were all secure and no leaks. However my control arm/sub frame which is right under the oil filiter was covered in oil so I wiped that down really good so I thought. Well the next morning I found 2drops of oil on the floor under the susupension link control arm I again checked the filter and the oil plug and both were dry and I had to wipe that sub frame again. I drove it about 100 miles and then sure enough I looked and there was a few drips of oil on the sub frame. I am hopeing since I didn't see any oil on the floor today this was the last wipe and it might just be a poor design to have the filter over that sub frame.

Is this something that ussually happens when they change the oil on this truck or to other owners?

Well I just wanted to see if anyone else has every experience this and if they had any suggestions. I first I got scared I though I had an oil leak but everything on the engine is dry including the filiter and plug.

Also noticed there is no plate covering everything under there I wonder why acura didn't put a door there to keep stuff away from the filiter. It seems pretty exposed.

Yep! Oil and subframe is an issue. If stealership is lazy or you bring it to one of the shady oil change joints expect this mess ! I do my own and cover the electonic part which is right under the oil drain plug or the filter. What were these Acura engineers smoking ??????? And yes there is little or NO protection as I suspect most owners have no plans on "off roading" this machine........:1:

Thanks guys! I bought it to actual acura dealer but they never put there best techs on oil changes espically on Sat. Yea maybe I should do it myself next time. The electronic thing you talk about I haven't noticed it and trust me I looked at everything fearing a real leak. I have a tech/nav so maybe the sport model only has this electronic box. Its like the sub frame has I guess what is drain holes so the oil basically gets stuck in the inside of this frame and only exits through the holes or roles all the way towards the back and drips. Well this seems like a great forum and I can't wait to post more. I honestly feared a real oil leak. I work for actually another lux car company and we have had major problems with oil leaks from the timing covers leaking and the whole engine has to be to remoed to fix this problem and being in PR for the company I get a lot of angry customers.

I would head back to the dealer and talk to the service manager. Show him the mess and ask for the car to be cleaned and the next oil changed comped.

Unacceptable for a luxury car (and stupid design by Acura).

Yea I don't want to get anyone in trouble plus I don't want to burn any bridges with them incase I ever need anything. The oil has not dripped over night so I guess all that wiping finnally got it all. I know it's a strange design more because that filter is really exposed to anything on the road. But all in all I think it's a great truck!

More for the same reason why I will always change the motor oil myself. Save time & trouble.

I saw some oil on there also ...I just pointed it out and they immediately cleaned it up ... it's not a bad thing to point things like this out... in the future they may know how you like to keep your vehicle and take better care... or on the even more positive side the more people who mention it the more they might come up with a solution to get it done cleaner on the first run so they don't have to go back and clean it twice.

I just really hate the fact that no matter what is done I have to double check the work anyone does. I really wasn't about to get on the floor and look at it after it was done as I was in a suit. It was when I got home and wiped it and then the next morning there was still more that came back. Next time I will mention it to them to make sure they wipe it good but I am not going to launch a formal complaint to get anyone in trouble. In fact which I was suprised acura called about my reccent visit and also the dealer. I felt that was very good for both of them to follow up. I missed both calls but I still think I wouldn't have said anything negative. I work in this industry and trust me you don't want to be one of those annoying people at the dealership. In my end of work I have to work with both and find a median which is sometimes impossiable with some of these hot head GM's and customers thats always have a compliant.
