05 MDX....my first factory defect after 40k miles! - Click HERE for Original Thread

Seems like ages since I posted here but anyway, hopefully this will help other second-gen MDX owners.

Anyway, recently I started noticing a lot of engine movements during gear shift but didn't really pay a lot of attention since I dont drive the MDX a lot (I have my Toyota Prerunner pickup).

Then I went to my in-laws place over the weekend and my bro-in-law was driving our mdx and noticed it immediately. Since he's a auto technician, he said thats NOT at all normal or part of wear/tear and suggested the engine mounts may have gotten loose or something.

Anyway, took our MDX to the Elk Grove dealership today and they confirmed the issue. Since it happened under 50k, they said the warranty will cover it.

Picked it up around 5ish today and the tech went over the repair.

It turned out both the front and side engine mounts were broken. The front one was cracked too and the liquid had started dripping slowly:eek: . They had to replace both mounts and refill the 'liquid'. Overall cost (and a free car wash/wax) to me....ZERO:)

I asked if this was common and the tech told me it was common on older first gen MDXs but not so on the 04/05's. He said maybe it was indeed a design defect.

Anyway, I'm happy it was a quick fix and best of all, didn't have to pay anything out of my pocket. Apart from this issue, I haven't had any other factory repair in the 3 years of ownership:cool:

Thanks

Glad it wasn't anything major, I just had the motor mounts replaced on my '02, along with the struts, and sway bar links....all under the zero $ deductible I got from Tim......

Glad you got it fixed under warranty. Did the bill say how much the repair wouldve cost without warranty?

If memory serves replacing both motor mounts on an MDX usually costs me, internally, about $400 or so.

Figure it's about $500 retail, and it's more common than you might think.
