Ok...i've just noticed this today...it's one of those things like the wiper going on in the reverse that I never really realised till someone pointed it out in a previous thread ...

When you push up on the wiper stalk to go to "Mist" mode ... there are 2 speeds ...if you push up and let go it's a slow wipe.... if you push and hold as the manual will tell you it's a high speed wipe.

Ok ...go on with your life ..thanks for reading this useless info thread :D ...maybe i like my X too much ...I'm noticing these little cool things as time goes by...lol

I actually read the manual last year and must have missed this.

I tried it on my way to work and it does what you say. In 18 months I have never had a reason to hold the lever up, just a quick tap wipe the windsheild.

Nah you didn't miss it ..the manual doesn't say it has two speeds ...it only speaks of the faster speed.

I thought the tap speed was the faster speed until i held it due to a truck passing me on the oncoming lane while it was raining. It hit one of those huge pools of water and it coated my windshield like a waterfall and for the brief moment i was blinded and immediately went for the hold up and not tap thing and I was shocked at the speed it moved the water off ....hence i realised the two speeds :p

Safety wise is why i mentioned it to people... in a situation like that knowing something like that exists could prevent an accident... you never know :)

My '02 has this feature too!

Keep it up. That's what the boards are for.

I finally got around to trying this. I appreciate this post because I like to learn about all the quirky things the vehicle does. I did not see it as slow and fast. More like slow on the way up and about 30% quicker on the downswipe as the hold registered. Perhaps this is a tech model feature and I am not seeing it?

What is really odd about this is: why would I ever want it to be slow? If I could push a button and the windshield would instantly clear, that would be ideal. I guess what I am saying is that in their attempt to put in something cutesy, they actually made the car less functional.

Its almost funny the amount of time they spent thinking about cool things like that yet are incapable (unless I completely missed it) of allowing for you to rename/personalize the 'Welcome Driver 1' to 'Welcome, Bob' or Joan or Jimmy or whatever name you want.

Here is some more "useless" information concerning the wipers.
When the wipers are in intermittent mode and you stop, when you release the brake pedal they will make a pass regardless of the interval selected. Seems to make sense when stopped at a light.:2:

^^ yup ...actually noticed that also :) ...I have mine set to the vehicle speed etc and it's not that bad at all when it's raining in regards to the way they work :29:

the TL had the same feature for the speed but when you stop in the MDX it still wipes, where the TL when you stop the wipers stop also until you start moving again.

I knew this, and find it a useful idea. Especially for those types of situations that King described.

Also, there is a cool feature with the rear wiper. When you are in reverse and turn the front wiper on it will turn the rear one also. This will stay on until you shift back into Drive.
