Predicted overall initial quality of 2008 Acura MDX is 3 out of 5 only, and that puts mdx #5 position in the U.S. News's Best Luxury Midsize SUVs ranking. (reliability: 4 out of 10)

JD Power's review page says overall IQs data is based on the ratings from previous model year. What do you guys think? How do you like your MDX's reliability?
wow, 4 out of 10 is very crappy! Scares me a bit as I am about to pull the trigger on a 08 MDX sport. I'm coming from an 06 4runner V8 limited which is built like a tank, never had any issues. Hope this works out for me as I am much more comfortable in the MDX. I'm 6'4" and the runner has terrible thigh support. |

I always find reliability ratings on a current year model to be somewhat suspicious.
Since actual data is not available the only thing that they can use to predict is "guestimates." Joseph, I would not get concerned with a 4 out of 10. If you like the vehicle, and most important it fits you, go ahead and buy it.

| Well if rattles and squeaks are part of the reliability surveys then yes I think the MDX should be dinged. I have never had a new vehicle develop so many rattles within 15k miles, and that is counting the cheaper cars I purchased when I was just out of college. At this point I would not buy the MDX again even though there are a lot of things about it I really like. You would think a year old car that cost 46k would be better built than this. |

In my experience, Consumer Reports reliabililty ratings tends to reflect the real life reliability of vehicles better than JD Powers. Here are the CR results. Note that 2007 was the first year of the redesign and is typically the worst year as the design matures and the bugs are worked out: |

I had my car into the dealership twice already. I own CL, TL and 08 MDX. The MDX gave me most trouble so far for 1st 1000 miles.
1st time was my AC. Driver side front and back have no cool air.
2nd time was worse. I got disabled due to a blown main fuse. :(
Before I buy, I heard good stories from my friends who has 1st gen MDX. I did not like my CL because of rattles and is built in Ohio. So I think Canadian built may be better. After this, I don't know:8: |

Well, 2007 was the first year of production so I would imagine that it would have a few more bugs to work out. In spite of this, my 2007 Sport/Ent has been rock solid from day one, with absolutely no mechanical issues whatsoever. Yes, I brought it in to have the grille replaced (it was discoloring), and had the TSB performed on the blower box assembly, but other than those two issues, which were taken care of under warranty with no questions asked, it's been smooth sailing. No squeaks. No rattles (ok, there was one in the glove box which was fixed). No nothing. In fact, this is the best car I've owned, hands down.
I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one who got lucky here, so take the J.D. Power survey with a grain of salt (same goes for the bellyaching you read on this site -- part of the purpose of this forum is for folks to bring up issues; if they're happy, they're probably not posting).

| I wouldn't worry about it guys, compared to Land Rovers and BMWs, the MDX is light years more reliable. |
