Sport package??? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Good day to everyone. I am a new member; My wife and I are planning to buy an X in the very near future. I am inclined on getting a sport package- for the reason that we are into long drives ( esp. on winding roads- lake tahoe, yosemite, etc...); just wondering if the suspension really is as good as the manufacturer describes it? Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated.

If you can afford it get it ...I just drove a tech for 5 days (dealer loaner) and couldn't wait to get back into the sport. It was very easy to see the difference after owning a sport for the last 6 months and going back into a tech for a few days. When we first bought the X they weren't as easy to see the difference in capabilities between them...but now over time I can tell what the sport gives me that the tech doesn't ...I love the tight ride at higher speeds also in sport mode :)

and so did the Type S versions;)

Acura spent a LOT of $$$ road testing, and tuning the sport suspension, and even took it as far as Nurburgring for tuning! How cool is that?!

You can definitelly feel the difference between sport mode and comfort mode too. You'll love it. Very flat corning (especially for an SUV).

If you don't get the sport mode, it's like not getting quattro for an Audi. You save money now, but you'll wish you had it later.

While I'm the first one to tout the benefits of the Sport package, it's important to note that the Nurburgring track tuning that Acura makes such a big deal out of was performed on the base suspension as well as the ADS.

That said, if you're at all into the art of driving, the Sport package is well worth the additional cost. The fact that you get the titanium-finish five-spoke wheels, auto-leveling HIDs, dashboard/console trim, and "Milano" leather seats is the icing on the cake.

Adam

true... true... :D

however, I meant that Acura spent a LOT of $$$ on tuning the sport's active damper suspension. Why not reap the benefits of this expensive R&D right?

Anyway, it's worth it~

Yes, it is. The computer controlled shocks (Sport only) combined with the Super Handling AWD (all models) make the 4,800 lb. MDX handle like a very capable sport sedan.
Once you trust the MDX and learn how to carve turns, you can do some amazing S turns. So amazing, however, that your passenger may not appreciate the suspension. I have to keep the setting to Comfort while my wife is in the vehicle, because she's been frightened a few times in a Sport-mode turn.
The sport suspension dampens pitching motions even more than roll. Some owners of base models have complained that their MDX pitches too softly, like it's wallowing.
Get the Sport. It also gives you another button to push.

Million thanks to all who have responded- it was great to read throughall the posts and comments. You guys made my life a tad easier....

JP422 works for Acura in Torrence and backs up our strong opinion about the "Sports model"......As said......NUFF SAID....SPORT RULES!

So when are you getting yours??? ;) ;) ;)
Fabvsix
I'll let someone else correct your observation with regards to comparing "handling" with regards to a base vs. the sports.....I'm afraid your wrong....The sports will spank the base/tech model on twisties! Guarantee!
In any event welcome to the board! :1:

bah!! if they spent so much time at Nurburgring, they would've heard the d@mn whistling windnoise and fixed it prior to production!! ...not to mention the clicking suspension!
JP422
I have no strange wind noise... nor any clicking suspension on my Sport/RES '08 X.... so sorry, couldn't agree with you there.
:p

The 2009 MDX's will have a new announcement on the Navi and MID. If you hear a faint clicking sound, just increase your stereo system and drink CHELADA'S.............

No clicking here, either. Perhaps this issue is more prevalent with the base suspension? As for the whistling, I'm assuming that you're referring to the air recirculation issue, right? Well, there's a TSB out for it now, so bring your X on in and get it fixed.

Regards,
Adam

PS - As far as figuring out the "whistle" while track-testing at "the Ring", for starters the test drivers would've had to have had the air recirculation switched on (unlikely), and even then they probably would've had a hard time hearing it through their helmets (a requirement when track-testing prototypes).

yes i know there is a TSB, and yes i've taken it in to get it "fixed." however, i still hear a faint whisteling at times. i was just being sarcastic about hearing the whistling at The Ring, but my point is, if they spent more time into R&D they would've caught both of these issues. since I have a first production year model, i understand it may have not have the kinks worked out. although, i just don't see how A/C does not whistle for everyone with a MY2007 since they all have the exact same box. ...so how could Acura have not heard this whistle as well?
JP422
Just a personal rule of thumb...

knowing the complexity of an automobile, a vehicle is bound to have some "bugs" in the first yr of model production. Hopefully it's not a recall type bug, nor a very common one.

Anyway, I try to wait at least untill the 2nd model yr. So far so good. (I picked up my '03 Accord (first model yr of that gen) at a company sale, and man it had its bugs too... stuff that the '04 and up never had. Luckily the dealer was able to take care of all that, so now it's perfect).

I'm looking forward to replacing my Yukon Denali w/ the new upcomming Honda Pilot. I just hope I can wait for the 2nd model yr.

Hey, I'm not excusing it (seriously, I have no idea how they missed this), I'm just saying that racing a car as fast as you can around a challenging race track while wearing protective gear isn't the exactly the best way to test for errant noises.

Mind you, this whistle was never a huge issue for me since the only time I use the air recirculation function is when I'm driving through either the Lincoln or Holland Tunnel, and you can't get above 50 mph in either anyway.

Adam

Ok... anyway... back to the Sport package.... GET IT!

If you ask a sport owner, they will tell you to get it. If you ask a non-sport owner, they will tell you to not waste your money... there are a dozen threads like this already :)

Being a Sport owner, and keeping with the theme, I like it and would get it if I were in your shoes, but YMMV

I'd search for this but those are four and three letter words :D

what's the story here - is it discussed somewhere else?
Fabvsix
just a joke. they will fix it on the later models and say nothing until they are pressed too! Typical Honda Corporation style.......they said nothing for several years about their failing transmissions on too many V6 HOnda and Acura models until the HTS commission got on their a$$es about it, then they announced a $68 million dollar recall..........that is when the 03 + MDX supposedly got the "all new designed" transmission.......
