| I went to test drive another 08 MDX today, and I noticed that any MDX with even 3000 miles had wrinkled, worn leather seats. the salesman said it's because they use a soft leather. Sounds like a bunch of Bravo Sierra to me. Do you guys notice the leather on the SPORT has less premature wrinkling? |

| I have the upgraded leather and it wrinkles quite easily too. I'm not sure if it's good or not. It feels nice though. |

My Sport/Ent has a bit over 7K miles on the clock, and so far -- with the notable exception of the side of the seat bottom on the driver's seat, which is getting a bit "crinkley" from sliding in and out -- the leather in my X still looks new. I have noticed, however, that if I put a heavy bag in the passenger's seat for a bit that the leather will wrinkle somewhat. That said, it always seems to bounce back to normal.
I should point out here that the only two seats that see regular action in my X are the driver's seat and the rear passenger-side seat, which is where my wife sits. My son's car seat occupies the rear driver's-side seating position. In spite of the abuse she plies on that seat (sliding back and forth to get our son in and out, letting him walk around on it, kneeling on it to reach back into the cargo area...), it's really holding up quite well. I dunno, but the leather seems to me to be pulled a bit tighter over the frames in back than in the front. Anyone else notice this?

| the leather is soft and it crinkles easily. Just condition it and it will stay good. |

| FWIW, this came up in 01 when they were just coming out. I'm still driving it and it's held up fine. Using a bit of conditioner once or twice a year may have helped though. |

| Before the MDX I had an expedition, that two kids in car seats were able to destroy the leather in two years. Every body fluid, drink, food product, and a few things CSI would not be able to identify has spilled on those seats in the last seven years. My wife once spilled a glass of apple juice, and covered it with a magazine. I found it three days later a green film over the seat. A little leather cleaner and conditioner and the seats still look great. |

Just because a leather wrinkles does not mean is of lessor grade.

| Funny enough my driver side which is used mostly is not crinkling... but the front passenger side bottom only edge has a slight crinkle from getting in and out ...it think it's because the wife is shorter ....not sure |

7500 miles and my leather still looks good. I have cleaned it once or twice but have yet to condition it. I was waiting for the summer so that the seats would be warmer and absorb the material better.
I had a GMC Envoy where the leather got wrinkly and crackly in one spot. GMC replaced it under warranty. Since leather is a natural material it is not always consistent and can be defective in spots. |

i think the leather in my old touareg is nicer than my mdx. i just used to wipe it with a damp cloth every now and then almost three years into it the leather still looks like new. 8 months into the mdx and i have creases in my driver seat where i sit. i really don't like using conditioners because i don't like my seats shiny and i had the misfortune of sliding almost out of the seat when i took a hard left after i just used it. since then i scrub my seats again with lexol leather cleaner after i let the conditioner sit in for a day or two to remove the greasy/shiny look from the seat.
seems like german cars have a different kind of leather compared to japanese or american cars. wonder what they feed their cows over there? |

We owned a 2000 Lexus RX330, 2004 Lexus RX330, 2005 Toyota Sienna Limited, 2002 Acura MDX, 2003 BMW 330 convertible, and currently a 2006 BMW 750i and a 2008 Acura MDX (tech/ent.).
In my opinion, the 2002 MDX had and the 2008 MDX has the lowest grade of leather of them all. They just don't have that "luxury feel" in it but that's very subjective. |

Well that's a bit poopy. The leather issue won't be a dealbreaker for me though. |

that's good to hear coming from a Bimmer driver. I had a 323CI, previous gen, great little car. although in the shop a lot for stupid little things. |

Agree the leather is rough, cheap looking and the stitching is also very ugly.
As a previous VW Touareg, MB and Infiniti owner, you just cannot compare the leather, stitching, general fit and finish to these.
This is a "Poormans Luxury SUV", with great engineering, great reliable, workhorse performance - but it is rather shabby on looks, fit and finish!
The cheap$hit plastic dash is a "dust collector"...I have tried everything!
But it was "priced right", runs like a beast and has all the Tech. Pkg I need - so I will just pretend I am sitting in one of the others.

IMHO, the current MDX is the only one in the whole Acura lineup that can compete with a bimmer in the same class in terms of driving/handling. I knew full well the relatively cheap interior materials (not just the leather) used in the MDX when I was in the process of getting a mid-sized SUV with a third row seat. But I bought one anyway. |

FWIW, the leather in my Sport/Ent is a lot nicer/softer than the leather in my E420. That said, the leather used in the Benz does seem to be "sturdier", and given that it has held up great for 11 years, there's no denying that those were some tough cows. As much as I love the seats in my X, I doubt they'll hold up as well over the long haul. Mind you, I intend to find out all the same...
Now I can't speak for non-Sport models, but from recent experience I will say that the Sport hides do kick the crap out of the leather used in the Camry Hybrid I drove on my vacation the other week, and are pretty much on par with the other car I had access to, which was an Audi S4 Cabriolet (a bit thinner, perhaps, but much softer).

| any chance that they may be using hides from kobe beef cows? heard those cows are raised on a special diet to make their beef sofyt and supple. maybe same goes for their leather?:2: |

| I don't know what they are using now but my '03 Touring has beige leather. I regularly treat it with a conditioner and cleaner. So far, even on the driver's seat, NO PROBLEMS. It looks good and is soft and confortable. Leather has to be maintained or you will have problems down the road. This doesn't matter if it's a couch in your living room or you car. JMHO |

My 08 MDX with only 6000 miles is wearing along the left side seam. It appears to be from the wear of sliding in and out of the drivers seat. I'm disappointed. This seems unacceptable. It's a wear mark through the color layer that is about 3 inches long and the thickness of a pencil right near the outer seam that joins the top piece to the side piece.
Has anyone else had this happen? |

Some truth there. My VW GTI has nicer leather than my Acura, it's still a very nice SUV for the money. One of my other choices was the MB ML320 CDI (with the price of diesel I'm glad the wife didn't like it) Most MB's on the lot had MB-Tex looks nice, stitched well but it's not leather. Leathers another big bump up so it better be nice :) |

I believe nice leather will survive the hardest human bottoms .... but certainly not the hard plastic bottom of a child's car seat grinding into it on a daily basis. For anyone who is needs to regularly place a car / booster seat on his nice leather:
When I simultaneously acquired my 911 and the car pool duties, I went online to a baby supply site and bought a protective shield for the passenger seat's nice, soft leather. Its a stiffish, fabric covered material (seat bottom and back, attached to each other with velcro) .... with the bottom having a lip similar to foul weather floor mat .... to contain all spills.
The bottom is larger than the surface of the Porsche seat bottom, so offers full protection. It just happened to closely match my gray leather. When the full car seat gave way to a booster (bottom only), I removed the seat back portion, but left the bottom tray in place. After 4+ years, there is no sign of car seat wear or indentations when I remove the tray for a childless spin with the top down.
