Hello,
Will a copy of a navigation disc work, or does it have to be the original? If a copy works, what software is used to copy the navi disc? This would be for the white colored version 4.62.
Has anyone done this?
Thanks. |

Of course, now 'nav' and 'disc' won't be long enough words to search on! |

You will need a Blank Dual Layer DVD (I used Verbatim DVD+R DL blank)
I started with a file I downloaded from the Net (Acura TL 4.62 Nav Disc) the file is 7,544,137,728 bytes long and is the ISO image of the disc.
I then used ImgBurn and burned it to the blank DL disc.
The disc works perfectly but I wish it was the one for northern
Canada instead of USA and Southern Canada. I do not have the coverage mostly needed for me (Quebec City) and I can't downgrade to the previous version, the system will not allow it. |

Thanks CS for the lead. Since I was not able to search using conventional methods (cannot search if words are <5) I was able to find your link using your screen name.
For anyone else that may be interested here is the link:

Anyone know the version of nav that is in the new Acura TSX? That has the new weather feature and I'm wondering if that would work in the MDX.
I drove the TSX yesterday and the weather feature is slick. Looks like it's just a software upgrade. |

I'm sorry for that, I thought the search would work as on acurazine it works with few words, and though it would work the same here. |

Yeah wish someone would change that to 2 or less or something ...try searching LED ...HID .....plus all our 3 letter acronyms BSM ...RES etc etc. really irritating sometimes when you're trying to search before you ask a question. :3: |

The DVD drive for the NAV is under the drivers seat. The disc is inserted from the front of the seat.
You will see a small box under the seat, just open the door, and press the eject button. |

I used Nero 7 to rip and burn a copy of my 4.55 disc. The copy works great and the orignal is stored away.
Question for those that have downloaded the 4.62 image, burned and updated your vehicle. Do you know if you can go back to the 4.55 disc? It should be as easy as downloading the software from the disc via the download button from the diagnostic menu. But I would like verification on that. |

I tried downgrading to 4.55 after loading 4.62 and it refuse to do it with the message that I am trying to load a file that is older than the present loaded version. |

Almost all NAV upgrades are one way since they can and sometimes do update the software/firmware.
You can therefore never go back down to the old version. Burn these with the risk that you cannot even buy 4.62 yet from Acura and if your copy is corrupt you are stuck. |

if it corrupt, the car won't read the disc. if you the car can't read the disc you burn you can always used the disc that come with the car. |

Not true. Just because the NAV boots does not mean it will work completely. I have burned copies for Jeep and they booted but would lock up during navigation.
All I am saying is for me, my truck came with 4.56A and 4.62 is not out for me to purchase. If I burn the disc, and find an issue my original will no longer function.
You get what you pay for so have fun...... |

I need to do this. Since these are so expensive, I don't want to risk losing the original. It's good to know I don't need any fancy software to do this. |

The burned disc works since its an exact ISO copy of the original and there haven't been any reports of anyone having any issues.
But it is possible to revert it back.
You have to go to the dealer and they will need to perform the backrev function for you.
Whether they do it or not is another thing altogether. |

What more level of detail is on 4.62?
How much do they cost to buy when out?

I really needed the arrows showing one way streets, especially for Brooklyn.
I believe $206 with shipping and tax.
They will only sell to 2008 owners, I called the number. Expect 2007 version out in July. |

Thinking of upgrading to this version but want to know if you did have northern Canada coverage before the upgrade. I dont wanna lose it if the upgrade removes it. Please let me know. thanks! |

No coverage for Northern Canada
You will get coverage for about 120Km north of the US border with that copy.
The official 4.62 DVD has 2 Discs. One for the USA and Southern Canada (This is the one that can be found on the web, originally posted by a 2008 TL owner) and the other disc is for Coverage in Canada.
How far north does the Canadian Disc covers?, I have no idea at this time. I just know that my original Disc provided with my 2007 covered Quebec City and the one downloaded from the net (4.62) does not have coveragefor Quebec City. The Navigation system starts to alert me that I am out of it's coverage zone way before I get to Quebec City. |

Thanks for the quick response. Guess I'll just wait for the Canadian version to come out...thanks again. |

| Time to close this one up. We have ALWAYS frowned upon downloading Alpine updates for the Navigation here at Acuramdx.org. Backing up your own DVD that you purchased is one thing, but seeking out torrents or asking for links or FTPs,etc, etc, etc. Won't be tolerated. Sorry but if you want to continue IM each other. |
