I don't much protection, the sides seem very sensitive to door dings. I know i can get the body molding, but that only does so much. I think i read somewhere the doors are made out of galvanized steel to prevent dings, but that sounds like marketing BS. Any thoughts? Have you guys had decent luck with preventing dings?

Yes...by parking in a good spot and praying that when I come back, I wont find a ding.:)
But as someone has pointed out in this forum, dings are a part of life. We can try to prevent it by parking way out in the parking lot, but somehow, someone (with a beater car...) would find your car and park right BESIDE YOU! So I guess life must go on... ;)

As I've mentioned before in a similar thread; running boards/side steps go a long way in preventing dings, especially from smaller vehicles (beater cars).

Yup, dings are a part of life. You can try to minimize them from happening, but they always sneak up on you.

I tried using plastic "protector" strips about 9 inches wide, with magnets. They stopped the dings in my parking garage, but scratched the paint.
Get the body side moldings, park in good spots, and hope. Every year or two, pay the money and get the dings removed.

Yeah I parked in a far out spot with no cars around. So on a windy day, that enabled a very nice shopping cart to pick up speed and travel unobstructed straight into my drivers side door. Fortunately my wife was waiting in the car, saw the whole thing and we were reimbursed the $400 repair from the supermarket.

Yeah, I also accept it as being a part of life. That and road debris hitting and leaving scratches in the front of the X.

my mdx just turned 8 months old yesterday, and so far, no dings (keeping my fingers crossed). i did this when my touareg was just two weeks new, parked waaaay away from other cars in target and what do you know? somebody parked beside me and when i came back, there were very nice deep gashes on my left rear quarter panel that bit so deep into the primer the metal was showing. body shop said it might have been from a purse from the height of the scratches, and that they have to take off the panel if i wanted to repair the scratch, as they have to repaint and blend it. of course i said no and just learned to ignore it in time, but there's a good lesson on how no matter how good you take care of your car there is an idiot out there who just doesn't give a damn about other people's properties.

sometimes i think you ought to buy the most expensive car that you can afford as it seems that people are more careful around them.
