All this technology and no RDS? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Did I just not RTFM, or does this vehicle not have RDS? If not, then I just don't understand why this vehicle doesn't have RDS. My 2003 Audi A4 has it, which has far less technological wizardry as our 2007 MDX. Everytime I drive my wife's MDX and hear music that I'm not familiar with, I glance over to the screen in the expectation that RDS will display the title/artists, but to my dismay there's nothing. All these years I've owned the A4, I've taken this handy feature for granted. *sigh*

I thought the same thing when i picked up the X back in feb... the salesman's reasoning was that not a lot of ppl listen to FM radio these days... might be the case with all the converts over to satellite radio, but my wife and i still like to listen to FM now and then... maybe the 09s will have the RDS back.....

It's a conspiracy I tell you..they want you to buy XM :p

Ok...really.. who listens to FM when they get really into the XM listening and start learning the channels/stations....there is only 1 station I maaayyy turn to in FM and honestly most of the time I don't bother... I kinda like the no commercial thing :)

The main HUGE, HUGE problem with XM is their compression. The quality of their audio compression is complete garbage and I find myself frequently changing the XM station to something else just because the amount of metallic crunchiness in the audio is completely nerve-racking. I am in the tv and audio industry so I know all too much about audio and video encoding, transport streams, etc. The XM garbage is totally unacceptable. Similar to the same reason why I hate Dish and DirecTV, too much compression. To the average person I suppose, they are either ignorant to the problems or just choose to live with that junk. Anyhow, if XM would increase the quality of their audio I would be sold. At this point, when our 3 month trial is done I don't think that I can justify the money to listen to music that isn't even up to the sound quality of the songs that I have on my cell phone. My 2 cents. Also, seems like RDS would have been a simple add. I do miss it from our old car.

Nope, no RDS. Pretty dumb omission, IMHO. My prior car, 2005 Chrylser minivan, had it.

Pretty dumb. Especially when the satellite radio they chose, XM, doesn't sound all that great. I think my local FM radio stations, NYC, give better sound than XM.

Good to see I am not the only one who can hear that XM is inferior. When I asked XM about it, their reply was that most people could not hear the difference between a CD and XM radio. I have to wonder how bad the play back system was when they did that comparison? I got XM fro $77 year, and that is about the most I would pay for it. My local cable TV company, TW, is no better. It seems they give some channel more bandwidth than others. Some are compressed so much they are almost unwatchable. Some folks see the word digital and automatically assume that means better, it doesn't.

I love it when companies try to justify their garbage by acting like the problem just doesn't exist. No difference between XM and a CD? They are crazy. Maybe they did that comparison on a tiny little boombox with 2" speakers.
TYP
They should have that, or the same type of stuff for iPods.

Cause no a days, I never listen to radio, so it's either CD/DVD or iPod, and Acura's iPod link is bad (what I've read from here_
