I want to know if the body side molding is effective at preventing dings on the side doors? I've repaired a couple of dings already and am thinking about getting the original moldings installed. Is it worth the money it costs?
Thanks |

I installed them from day 1. Now 7 months into it, still no door dings. On close inspection, the moulding have taken 2-3 hard knocks from other cars that would certainly have resulted in door dings. The design height is pretty good.
For my $$, I would do it again. |

Well, I'm certainly glad to see that they're doing something for someone on this board. While my X isn't exactly covered in dings, the ones that I do have occurred far enough above the BSMs to render them pretty much ineffective. More to the point, my BSMs are as pristine and spotless to day as they day they were installed, which leads me to believe that they have yet to experience the harsh embrace of an indifferent soccer mom/trophy wife/spoiled teenager's door in a parking lot.
The above notwithstanding, I do like how they look, so I'm glad I have them, but they don't seem to be doing much to protect my X's doors from the vagaries of suburban life. As always, YMMV.

| I don't consider the BSM as a form of protection...sure it may prevent a ding to your metal door, but then you'll just end up with a ding/knick in your BSM. I think paintless dent removal (PDR) is the solution to door dings, but what's the solution when your BSM gets messed up...refinish, replace? I only got the BSM for looks and I'm pissed that some @sswipe knicked it. |

| I put them on for the look ...not for the protection ...they don't do that much really ...but i like how it seperates the large size of the door ....if you're getting them to save you from dings save the money and use it for dent repair ...if you are buying it for looks then go for it :) |

I like the look of the BSM and it saved my door from a few dings.
I also find the door edge guard gives good protection to the doors, especially with young kids who just want to race out of the car every time. |

| BSM to me is more cosmetic than functional. My X feels naked without it tho. |

My MDX had a major door ding within 6 weeks of the time I bought it.
I immediately purchased the moldings and installed 3 INCHES HIGHER than the included template. Since then I have had no further damage. You have to install these higher than recommended to protect that part of the door that protrudes out the most. Otherwise you will still get dings.
By the way, the paintless dent repair people did an excellent repair job.

Sorry to go little off topic but to those of you who mentioned the paintless dent removal for their cars, did they have to drill holes in order to get thier tools inside the body?
By the way I just installed the Wide Body BSM's and I think they look great, if they can protect from just a few door dings than they were worth it. |

You know what Colton, I did a craptastic research, but I found out the BSM are great for passenger vehicles. But are useless with other SUVs. Since the Door edges are higher like you said they will strike the door of the MDX. |

No holes drilled in mine.

| It literally is "hit or miss" with BSM's. If they save you from just one door ding, then they are certainly worth it. |

For anyone with 07+, I don't think this will work with the 07/08 mouldings. The mouldings will not sit correctly and won't flow with the door if you installed higher.
Also, the 07/08 moulding don't come with a template, but rather get you to line up masking tape along the character lines in the door, and then measure from there. As long as you get the tape lined up properly, you're all right, but it can be a bit of a pain with shadows being cast and making the character line appear to not exist or be in a different place on the door! |

| I used body side mouldings to my car because it acts as protective barriers against parking lot dents and protect sides of the car from scratches and dents. And most importantly it, enhance the appearance of my car.URL REMOVED |

For me, the BSMs are absolutely useless on the 2nd gen. Sounds like they offer more protection for the 1st gen. In 10 months of ownership, I have managed to accumulate 4 dings. And mind you, I am quite particular in selecting parking spots - typically out in isolation. Had 2 removed already and am scheduling to get the other 2 done (at this point, I might as well wait for a few more). The upper body line is the most obvious impact point.
If I had to do it over again, I would not have gotten the BSMs and instead save the money for PDRs. |
