| Probably a combination of a few things - end of month, getting towards the end of the model year and, probably the biggest reason, high gas prices. Check the doc fees, etc. 36K for a base is great! |

There is a $2k incentive. Those prices are approximately invoice - incentive + 2%. |

Wow! I didn't realize they had started this already. Thru June 30th. It will be interesting to see what they do on July 1! |

A lot depends on how you drive. I get 17-18 driving residential streets. My wife gets that in mixed driving (60-40 residential/highway). |

I've been receiving discount offers thru mail from Acura dealership near my home. And when I went for an oil change last week the front desk clerk ask me if one of their salesman could talk to me. They've never been this aggressive before but it looks like the weak economy and the high oil price (MDX requires premium) is having an adverse impact on the auto industry (domestic and foreign).
Their offer is tempting indeed but I told them that I'll wait for a fuel efficient MDX to come out and even the manager agreed. There are lots of MDXes on their lot, looking like forclosed homes in the neighborhood.
So, if you are on the market for an X this is the best time to do it. But I'm wondering what will they do with my X if I trade it in, they'll have the same problem selling it.
Here's their deal:
1) 2.9% or even 0% APR
2) 110% buy back of your current X or assume the remaining balance
3) No downpayment
4) Give the same options that your current X have at no extra cost.
5) They even offered free maintenance for 2 years!! |

Is this incentive for MDX still available? It is no longer showing up on the listing of incentives on most car sites.
Thanks

Don't forget there is also an approx 2k kick back to the dealer from Honda already on top of this incentive. |

The $2k I was referencing is the dealer incentive. There is also the 3% holdback. |

Current incentives on MDXs are....
$2,000 dealer money. In our market the cheap deals are running at $500 over invoice -$2k or a new price of $1,500 under invoice.
The only difference is if you take the special lease money factor or the special finance rate (0.9 for 36 months or 2.9 for up to 60 months). In that case the dealer incentive is reduced to $1,000.
So if you plan on financing, you may be better off taking the 2.9 or 0.9 and paying $1k extra for the MDX, particularly if you are not putting much down. |

I mean where is it written about that 3% hold back?
I am going this weekend to negotiate the price but not sure about where to find info about %3 hold back to dealers.
Thanks. |

Do a thread search.
Dealer holdback, depending on the MDX model, range from 3% to 3.5%.
However, it may prove very difficult, indeed near impossible, in June to have a dealer give any part of his holdback.
Good luck and post here what you find.
I for one will be very interested in seeing what the exact/real market is for MDX's.

Jeff,
Not sure about the NY metro area as there's no Cross-Sell reports for NY, NJ or CT. From the deals that we see from other dealers, people are generally being given roughly $1k over invoice, but again that can vary widely. One of our competitors seems to be a lot more agressive to people in Dutchess county than to people down in Westchester, hmm... wonder why that is? :)
EDIT: Apparently there are Cross-Sell reports for NJ, I can find out NJ #s for you if you would like, I'm sure I know someone who is getting them down there on Acuras.
But I have seen Cross-Sells for other markets, average from what I know of based off of midwest deals is $1,000-2,000 over invoice, depending on the market. (Chicago is cheaper than a market with only one Acura dealer like, say, I dunno, Louisville, KY or something like that) |

Oh yeah, forgot.. most people don't know what a Cross-Sell report is :)
www.cross-sell.com
Relatively expensive reports that show what dealers are selling what cars for and to what ZIP codes.
They don't show personal data, but they do show things like, say, An individual in Zip code 12345 bought an 08 MDX with first 10 digits of vin 1234567890 for $12,345 from a dealer in Zip code 12346
They also show what dealers near you are selling into your market and vice versa. |

I am just getting serious about buying a base model MDX but haven't had a chance to talk numbers with the dealers in person. I've read various places that some people are getting anywhere from $100 to 400 over invoice with the rebate (so essentially $1600-1900 of the $2000).
I can only imagine that the demand for the MDX will dry up in the next few months with the 2009's coming, the economy as it is, and now reports that gas will continue to rise. I think it is telling that Acura had to start a $1,000 rebate to go with the special financing to move these vehicles.
I guess we'll see what I can get price-wise next week. Initially I thought I could try for some holdback but it looks like most dealers are offering $500-1000 over invoice as a starting point. Most dealers around here have anywhere from 10-20 base models in various colors on the lot. |

Thanks for all the suggestions. I finally got a deal:
2008 MDX with Tech
MSRP: 44410
Financing 2.9 for 60 months,
Sale price was 38400 (close to the invoice price)
OTD price: 41800 incl all tax and fees
It seems that you can get a MDX around invoice now. If you are looking for a MDX for a different trim, do check out the OTD prices posted in
http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.ef0b87c and
http://opencarprice.com/auto/Acura_MDX
It has been quite a while since I bought last new car. The Internet has been great. |

Thanks for the post.
Actually the invoice is $40,403.
You got it at invoice less the $2,000 rebate!
Good Job!
Welcome and enjoy your new MDX!

I guess its the rebates:-)
What I found useful is to find comparable sales on the websites and tell the dealers that others are getting DMX at these prices. It becomes very hard for dealers really say that it can not be done. |

Jeff,
Just had a friend of mine who is a manager at an Acura dealership in FL e-mail me cross-sell info. He's in Central FL and told me that he is averaging $1,100 over invoice on MDXs right now.
Now, this is Orange and Seminole county, FL but that's a pretty competitive market, I also have Broward and Dade county.
Orlando seems to be averaging, best as I can tell, about $971 over invoice. Closer to $1,300 over in Broward and Dade.
I did see several that appeared to have sold right around invoice, someone else paid MSRP! (Ouch!)
Saw a lot going for $500-1k over, a handful sure did sell for invoice though. This is May data from the looks of it and we did have the incentive in May. I had the guy who sent it to me filter out the ones financed through AHFC as those would not have had the $2k dealer incentive (It's not a rebate) applied to them assuming the buyers took the low rate finance.
In my experience the South FL market is pretty competitive, odd that I saw higher prices there.
As I have said elsewhere, you can certainly get one for invoice, but it is not the average selling price of one.
Disclaimer: This is 3rd party information and I do not work in the new car department. Also any information that I post is based off of actual market activity. |

| I can't believe that people are still paying over invoice. With SUV sales in the toilet, Acura dealers should be sweating to make the next sale. I got mine for $300 over invoice back in 05--play the dealers off one another and you should get a deal way under invoice. |
