Hershey Park or Busch Gardens VA? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Ok... less than a week away from our major roadie and we have just about all of our destinations locked in... the last piece of the puzzle is the amusement park. We are trying to decide between Hershey Park or Busch Gardens in VA. We are stopping in Hershey on our way to DC to do the chocolate factory. Initially we decided not to do the park and had planned to do Busch Gardens on our way back to Florida (from DC). SO.... I would love to hear your thoughts on which is a better park for a family of four. 11yo girl, 3yo girl, and mom/dad. I personally have been to Busch Gardens and think its probably the better fit BUT having never been to Hershey I am beginning to rethink our choice. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Good luck with the trip, I think Busch Gardens is a better park, a little bit bigger and greater choice of rides if my memory serves me right. Either one will be a lot of fun, so you really can't go wrong!

Busch Garden is the better park for amusement, but Hershey Chocolate World and Hershey Park is definitely a worthwhile stop

Yeah Midnight we have already perused those sites. As I mentioned we are stopping at Hershey's Chocolate World regardless (actually spending a night in Hershey to break up the roadie a bit) My gut tells me Busch is a better park (I have been there but not Hershey) and to boot Williamsburg had alot of "other" historical things to do versus "gimmics" that Hershey would offer.

I guess I misread it this morning. :p If you are going to Chocolate World, you might as well do Hershey Park. That way you will know what its like first hand. If you are feeling iffy about it, just do Busch, you cant go wrong.

Ok guys... think we made our decision... we are going to do Busch... Unless someone sells me SERIOUSLY the other way. I just think all and all its a better fit given the family dynamics and to boot its heading south (towards home) on the backend. Still willing to listen but booking the hotel in the AM. Hershey just looks too much like a "local" park we have in Valdosta, Ga called "Wild Adventures". Will post some pics once I am back in town. Thanks for all the input everyone!!!

My vote is definitely for Busch...plus Colonial Williamsburg isn't bad either!

We actually had an MDX.org meet in Hershey many years back. Wish we still did stuff like that.....

Was there any pics from the meet? Wonder if anyone is still interested into going to meets.

Well... we ended up doing Busch which in the end I think was the better deal for us. We did stop in Hershey and did the Chocolate World/Factory deal... what a waste... for those who are thinking about doing this trip I would say you would definately want to plan way ahead.. do the park... and see what attraction they have coming into the stadium (I think Dave Matthews was coming soon after we left). Its a beautiful area but the Chocolate world is basically a gift shop.

The park itself looked much smaller to me than Busch although I cant say for sure.

a quick synapsis of our trip....

Glad you had a great time, in the old days, Hershey gave a "real" tour through the factory instead of the simulated one they do today.

Yeah..that was a major bummer... the 4 minute "ride" is kid friendly .... but beyond that the rest of the area (save the park) is really geared for adults....

Yea, Hershey is a one time only place to see. Did you enjoy the rest of your trip? How was DC?

DC was awesome. We even got to see the DC police "gestapo" tactics in action. Had one come on our trolly bus and ask us how we were doing, where we were from, etc... not as bad as the media might make you believe...

Thanks to the suggestions of many from this board DC went very smoothly... metro in, trolly around, metro out... We were up there when they had the bad storms but they never really affected us as they were later in the day. The kids quasi enjoyed DC. I think Natural History museaum was their favorite.

As far as the rest of the trip I think they enjoyed Buffalo, NY the most. Saw the falls, visited relatives, did some shopping... My wife was taken aback a bit by western NY. She had this impression of NYC... I tried to expain to her it was TOTALLY different but I guess until you see it with your own eyes its hard to shake that image. LOL... I think I might have even seen Tim riding around on his Honda while I was there....
