With all the interest and enthusiasm shown in the other thread definitely mostly due to Tim's reputation, still quite a few of us (me included) posted a "fine print" back door - we (or our spouses :)) need to see the pictures first before we commit.
What if OEM BSM is really not up to par? There were a few other OEM accessories in the past which turned out to be less than "perfect" Even Tim himself (if memory serves me right) recommends a third-party hood deflector over Acura's.
SportWing may be willing to "deal" (just my guess, I did not contact them) if we "show them the money" Their product and customer service appear to be on a level we should like (based on various threads, some with pictures).
The last time I checked the price was about $125 shipped.
Would any of you consider "switching allegiance" to SportWing if Acura's BSM falls short of our expectations? |

I would never hold anyone to any commitment on any group buy. Trust me, you don't need fine print to get out of buying them.
From your post it doesn't seem like you trust Acura accessory quality too much, to each their own. While I can't defend a part I've never seen, I think you're putting the cart so far in front of the horse that the horse lost sight of the cart. But if Sportwing has a quality product for less than the group buy price, I can't argue. |

Tim, you are probably right and I did "jump a gun" a little bit. I lived without BSM for a while, I can wait a little longer.
You've mentioned before your open-minded attitude towards group buys - i did not mean "fine print" as in "lawyer talk". Sorry if that part in any way offended you.
However, since SportWing BSM was around for a while now - all of the whole month probably :) and people were not in a rush to buy-buy-buy (me included), I am not going to justify my decision to wait and see Acura's product just so that I can save a few bucks. I "commited" to Acura BSM only thanks to you (I truly hope that you are appreciated by your superiors for your fine work)
Since we had to pay the asking price for the car, it is just FUN to be able to negotiate a few bucks off on some other stuff. You are already doing everything you can. But what if...?
Hence, this topic was born first in my head, and then materialized on this site. |

No offense taken, just wanted to clarify :)
If you're going to do it this way, though, what I would do is either involve Sportwing the way we involved Ron (?) on that Razo group buy way back, or have somebody contact Sportwing on a group buy and do it the way The Worm handled it on the Zaino (which I was happy to participate in).
And as far as my superiors go, I can say that Ray Laks himself is the best dealer principal there is. As long as you do well, he lets you to do it well, unlike many dealers that feel that they have to "involve" themelves in a success and consequently screw it up.
My co-workers, on the other hand, are sometimes another story..... |

Exactly my point. Once again, a "contingency" - if and only if OEM BSM proves to be a bust.

Sorry to hear! :( Envy is a powerful emotion. |

| I wouldn't call it envy, it's just that they don't know what this is really all about. They see Tim typing furiously and about 20 boxes a day going out, but that's all they know unless they are curious enough to find out. |

... about the SportWings. They appear to be of good quality and color match and are of course a good price. However they are so plain. (I don't know how to say that w/o sounding like a snob.) But ever since I saw the '98 Pontiac thread I have been eying everything on the road. I was set to start pricing a couple of choices when the OEM announcement was made.
Of course this type of contingency plan has the downside of being a lot of trouble and expensive (must get them painted to be color coordinated). This is why I started the thread asking others for opinions regarding a black BSM two-tone look. I haven't exactly had a lot of feedback however:(
