| I dont understand why Acura chose not to put the buttons for the car horn near the rim of the steering wheel. Right now you got to lift your hand up and hit somewhere near the center of the wheel. Bad in case of an emergency if the driver is honking to get somebody's attention and ends up in a crash--his hand will go flying up and hit his face thanks to the air bag(may cause serious injury). Also if the driver is driving with one hand on the wheel and with the other is holding a coffee cup/phone honking can get difficult. Personally I prefer the buttons near the rim which can be activated by the thumbs as in the good old Honda Accord. This sure helps a lot when one is driving in the urban jungles but perhaps not much in the wilderness of Belize where the car was tested. Anyway does anyone know if there are any aftermarket products addressing this concern. |

I agree with your concern. The horn is not placed where it can be accessed with both hands on the steering wheel, and takes a fair amount of pressure to operate.

Not to mention, you have to hit the TOP part of the center of the wheel to get the horn to activate. I tried to use my horn once when I needed to, but I was pressing on the Bottom of the center part. Not too easy to find, especially if you are turning and need the horn... (now which way is the top?...)

Agreed completely. In fact, after driving for 1/2 an hour, that was one of my first negative impressions (see my post "waiting is over +..." ) I guess it's too late for us unless there is a "safety recall" or something. Hopefully, Honda will take care of the future MDX owners. I am not a big fan of horn buttons. My previous car had the entire air-bag compartmet (everything inside a rim) sound a horn.
Also, I am a strong opponent of drinking coffee/talking on a phone/reading a paper and/or putting on a makeup. Those activities DO NOT belong in the moving car!!! |

I agree too on the horn issue.
I hit the wheel for the horn once, nothing sounded.
It seems that you have to put some strength into activating the horn. WHY ?!?!?!?!
I like the old pattern on the old Hondas. Near the thumb, nice and easy.
I might have to install some Hella air-horns now.
That'll wake EVERYBODY up. LOL !
The horn sucks !
