So i find this guy on craigslist selling a $60 NAV upgrade disc, seems like a good deal vs the $185+ version on Acuranavi.com
I popped the old disc out, put in the new one...and at first the screen was totally black but then 10 mins later it said it was loading the new data....then all i saw was an icon in the top left corner of the screen and the setup button in the lower right corner.
Assuming the disc was not good, i took it out and put my old disc back in....
now, when i start my car i get a Yellow error box saying "Disc error, uncompatiple...blah blah blah"...BUT if i hit the button to view the Climate Control settings and then the map button i get the wordy disclaimer page prompting me to hit the OK button and then im all set again, map functions fine, directions work, previous destinations etc all work fine.
Why is it putting up the error message as the default start screen?
yes, i have learnt my lesson about taking the cheap way out...and yes, now i have to go out and buy the real replacement disk.
HELP? |

You cannot (easily) go backwards with navigation upgrades, since each newer disc installs some software updates along with having a newer map database. So if you inserted the newer disc it would have installed the newer software first. Now you're trying to go back to an older version and it can't do it unless you reset the whole system by going into the service mode, and if you don't know what you're doing there you can permanently mess things up. |

You need to take it to the dealer and they can do the downgrade for you. Who know the cost. That is why you need to be careful d/ling from torrents, newsgroups, etc. At best it won't work, at worst it will FUBAR you system. |
