transmission makes a whining noise when crusing mainly in 5 th gear (od) Shifts fine. Any thoughts?

| Same exact issue with my 2003 MDX. 5th gear on smooth highway has a low frequency wub wub noise. Doesn't seem to be speed related. Shift down to 4th gear and noise goes away. Too slow for tire balance or similar. My buddy who is a Chrysler mechanic says they have cars that experience "exhaust drone" that sounds similar. Not sure if this is the same thing. Anyone? |

| Today I was cruising a back road very slowly and noticed a transmission whine when I took my foot of the gas. It went away when i touched the gas and came back when I took my foot off. Kept repeating that pattern. I'm not sure if it's new or if I just noticed it when I was crawling around the picnic area at the park where it was very quiet. I had the windows and sun roof open. Normally I have the windows closed. I followed up with a cruise up the highway over the Malahat and did not hear it again. Too much other noise on the highway to hear the tranny.I'll keep an ear open during the week. It may be normal...I don't know. After reading all the posts here I get skittish with any strange noises. |
