Seat Memory Problem? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hello all,

We just got a 2003 MDX Touring, and noticed something strange about the seat memory. When we press either preset, the seat does not move back or forward... only the recline and height. This is this a problem, right? Thanks.

That depends. Simple question first- did you set the presets so that the seat would be in very different positions, or did you just push 1 or 2 and expect it to form to your body?
If you did set the memory positions, next step is to check that the fobs are both linked. Press and hold both fob buttons until the tiny LED blinks once. If it blinks twice, press and hold them again.
Did you get a warranty, or was this a private sale?

I agree with Shootist. Try setting the seats as per the instructions in the owners manual. If you did not get a manual then get an e-copy here: https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis...001_OMANUAL.asp

Welcome aboard and Good luck

Yes, we set two different settings for each. I even moved the seat forward all the way, then pressed one of our presets. It never moved back. Does it matter if the fobs are linked or not, if we just use the buttons in the door?

Another thing we noticed is that the seat does not continuously move forward or back when we keep the lever in the direction. Is that by design or not? Compared to the passenger's seat which moves back or forward for as long as we keep the lever pressed.

We got it through Carmax so it comes with a 30-day warranty.

Thanks.

I only ever use the key fob and my seat and mirrors adjust to my presets before I get in. Then it beeps as indicated in the manual to tell me it has finished adjustment. Are you getting the audio beeps? Ar the outside mirrors adjusting to your settings? How many beeps under what circumstances? There are several of these quick reference checks which can help determine if it's the system or the seat motor.

I can hold the adjuster for the driver's seat and it moves until I let go or it comes to the end of travel, as in any other vehicle I have ever owned with a power seat. If yours is not doing this then I suspect you have a problem with the switch or motor. Given the other problem with the presets, it's looking like the seat motor may have a problem.

I would not waste another more of my 30 days...take it back...these MDX's can be pricey to fix at a dealership.:)

Thanks for the links! I will check the wires, but my problem sounds exactly like that TSB. Do you think my MDX is still eligible for that repair at the dealer though? Or I can tell Carmax about it, though I doubt they'd follow the procedure outlined in the TSB.

Go through Carmax since there is a warranty.

Yeah, I already scheduled an appointment with them.

I called a local Acura dealer, and they said I would have to pay for that repair, even if it's a recall.

Thanks for all the replies.
