When using the navi around my home, there are some streets that were completed about 3 yrs ago. I was surprised that they were not on the navi maps.
How often does Alpine update the maps?
About how much of a lag is there between a new street and it is available on navi maps? |

guys - Honda doesn't make the navigation system, they sub-contract that out to Alpine, who buys their map data from NAVTEQ

It's Honda's choice to stick with Alpine becase they have had that partnership for a while. Right now it sucks, but this is the way the industry is. All of the big guys - Pioneer, Alpine, Eclipse release updates via DVD and then only once every 1-2 years. If your street is very small, or in a not very population dense area then it may not be on NAVTEQ's "to scan" list or any other big maping company's list for a long time. |

Yes, and if you find an error/omission you can report it yourself. They will investigate and if it is found to be an error/omission they will correct it in a subsequent upgrade:

Thanks or the tip! An intersection by my house has been wrong on Navteq for 15+ years (they say it's a divided highway, but it's really a 4-way intersection with lights). I submitted a correction...we'll see how long it takes for them to fix it! |

And, of course, your updated (well, you hope it's updated and correct) disc will cost you $190. Well, maybe it will be current. I've never understood why my Nuvi disc cost $69 for the same info and works better than my Acura Navi, blus it's Blue Tooth capable. I've seen more new vehicles lately with portable navies on the dash. I guess spending a couple of hundred for a system you can move from car to car is better than spending $2,000 for a fixed system. At least I've found it that way.
JMHO. |
