Hello-
Anybody have pictures of a long roof box installed (Acura)? Know of a good place to purchase the roof box? Anybody know the advantages of the OEM? Should we consider aftermarket?
-Thanks!

My vote is for either OEM load bars or Thule/Yakima (your preference) and the Yakima SkyBox Pro as described on the home page. But hey, I'm just a little biased :D
In all seriousness, I've used the SkyBox Pro for trips to Lake Tahoe in the winter and Las Vegas / Los Angeles in the middle of summer with no worries! It's rock-solid!
Hope that helps |

Tahoe and Las Vegas. Have you tried parking in parking structures? I'm considering attaching a Thule or Yakima rack and the SkyBox but that may hit the supports of some of the low clearance garages (esp those casino garages in Reno) |

I don't really understand why you would want to buy the Acura branded roof box. If that's the look you want, buy the cheapest Thule or Yakima you can find, tear off the Thule badge and glue an Acura one in its place. No?
I really like the Thule I have. But if I had to do it over again, I'd probably buy a low-profile, wider one. With the roof box on, my 2001 is just over 7 feet tall. Too tall for my garage, and too tall for many parking structures.
Whatever you do, make sure you get one that opens from both sides. It makes life so much easier.
Oh, and it is better for the box and your car if you hit the garage going forward, rather than backwards. Don't ask me how I know. |
