I realize that basically nobody is cross shopping an MDX and a Lincoln Navigator, but I'm currently renting a LN and have put almost 1000 miles on it already up in British Columbia, I thought I'd list some observations between the two.
Features from the Navigator that we like Vs the MDX:
- heated and cooled seats. I never though I'd care, but after spending the days hiking in the mountains, and being dead tired and really hot, it's nice to flip on the seat coolers and enjoy the cool air from the front, seat, and back!
- 3 zone backup system with audible and visual warning alerts. The Navigator has this cool 3 zone (green, yellow, red) visual alert system in the backup monitor, and does progressivly faster audible alerts as you back up closer to things. I literally can park this thing with my eyes closed.
- lift gate with window that opens. With lots of gear in the back, it's nice to just open the window and get at stuff, Vs open the whole thing and have stuff fall out.
- power folding 3rd row. A bit of a gimmick, but my wife isn't tall enough to change the seating configuration manually (at least not easily). This makes it simple.
- Power running boards. Open a door, and the running boards come down. Really cool, and my wife and daughters loved these, since otherwise it's a big step up without them
- Gigantic storage areas in front and in the 2nd row.
- Better DVD system and all around better 2nd row. My 8 year old said it all with "daddy, this car is a lot nicer than ours"
- Everything is leather, wood, or chrome Vs plastic in the MDX
- Much quieter interior, I mean a lot LOT better than the MDX. The MDX is a rattle trap with lots of road noise in comparison.
- V8 rumble and roar
- a real 4x4 system, which we have tried out up here in the mountains
Things I like better about the MDX:
- gas milage. I'm getting about 15 in the Navigator, but that's with mostly highway driving. I'm conditions similar to my daily drives at home, it would probably be a 5MPG difference between the two
- MDX is sportier to drive, i.e. more nimble
- MDX takes up less space to park. The Navigator is a door ding magnet.
All in all, I thought I'd hate the Lincoln since it's just an expensive Ford, but it really is nice. Too big for us though, for a daily driver. But great on vacation up in the mountains!!!
I am a little worred that once I get back home to the MDX, I'm really going to notice the less substantial interior and all the road noise and rattles. |

| Get an 07+ MDX and you'll forget the Navigator (with the exception of the power running boards and cooled seats). |

The three zone backup system is quite nice. My wife's Cadillac has that.
I really miss the opening rear window from my previous SUV's. I wind up having to tie long stuff on the roof rack, which is also to close between bars.

| I took a Lincoln Navigator limo from LAX and back to LAX over the weekend. The trip from the airport was in a stretched Navigator. Darn thing was so long, it looked like a commuter bus. The amount of space inside was remarkable. Ride was smooth but then again it was stretched. On the journey back to the airport, we had to take a regular Navigator. From the back seat. I was not one bit impressed. Ride was not as comfortable as the X and felt too bouncy. The seats were not very supportive. The power retractable running boards were nice though. |

Navigator Limo?? Someone likes to make a grand entrance. :4:
I once rode in a stretched LX470 for a wedding. I felt pretty cramped in there. |

LOL. Quite the contrary. 2 things pop into my head when the limo pulled up:
1. It can't be for me.
2. My buddy with the Cayenne sure has a sense of humor (since he arranged for the pickup).
Turns out this is a new limo company with very good rates (PM me if anyone needs a ride from LAX in a limo). Let's just say it cost only about $20+ more than a regular cab to get us to our destination. And this thing had a pretty stocked bar. I was buzzed by the time we arrived (hey, we just flew across country with 2 small kids - I needed this ;)). |

| Nice! That bar feature is a definite plus. Again, I wish I had friends like that. :4: |

I think the LN is a great vehicle if you want large and luxurious. I owned an '06 for 2 + years and it was great for family vacations. It had all sorts of cool features mentioned in the original thread, but, it just was not a good every day driver, and it is a total gas hog. Around town 8-10 mpg and maybe 15 mpg highway.
Traded it in, lost my shirt in the process, and got an '08 MDX Tech/Entertainment. Wife loves it. I even get to drive it sometimes. But some times when I wanna roll with the gangstas I really wish I still had my Navigator.
Peace,
