shuttering sound at low to mid speed - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi, I have a 2004 mdx with 68000 mi. When I am crusing and just feathering the pedal to keep up low speed, usually aroung 30 mi per hr and around 1500rpm the car will make a shuttering vibrating sound but I don't feel it in the car. If I give it more gas it goes away or if I shift down to 4th gear it goes away. Can't seem to pin it down. Some times I think it has to do more with the rpms I am at, rather than the speed although it never happens above 1500rpms Anybody experiance this. Would appreciate any feed back

by any chance was this problem fixed i have the same problem and my mdx is 04 wit 60k

NO. I HAVE NOT HAD IT FIXED YET. I AM STILL TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT IT IS BEFORE I GO TO A DEALER SO I DON'T GET CONED OUT OF A BUDDLE OF $$. I NOW KNOW IT WILL VIBRATE AT ANY SPEED AS LONG AS ITS AT 1200 TO 1500 RPM AND I DO SEE EITHER A SLIGHT RPM INCREASE OR AS WELL A DECREASE EVERY TIME IT VIBRATES. THE TACH SEEMS TO JUMP UP OR DOWN 100 TO 200 RPMS WHILE IT VIBRATES. IF I KEEP THE PEDAL DOWN AND LET IT RUN BY THE RANGE IT WON'T HAPPEN. BUT EVEN IF I AM ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT DROPS DONE TO THAT RPM RANGE AND I KEEP IT THERE IT CAN ALSO HAPPEN. IT SURE WON'T GET BETTER ON ITS OWN. WHEN I FIND OUT WHAT IT IS I WILL POST IT AND HOPE YOU WILL DO THE SAME. THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY

200 rpm's or so is about the change you get when the torque converter locks or unlocks. Locking torque converters can cause a shudder when they are not working properly. You likely have a transmission problem. Hopefully you have an extended warranty.
jhpossick
I am sure it is the trany but don't know if its a repair or a complete rebuild. Can a converter br replaced without a complete rebuild? no extended warrentee.

my trucks poblem started before warrenty was up and dealer has seen the car 4 times on same issues they will repair and pay out they own pockets........................

Wow, sorry to hear that you had alot of problems. Its good to see they will be buying the car back. So what are planning getting to replace the X? I guess the 04s arent immune to tranny issues.

TORQUE CONVERTER.... Aaarrrrgghhhh.. I am so angry at my Acura dealer, Sunnyside Acura in Amherst, NH. I brought my 2002 MDX in for a timing belt change ($1200), and let them know about the same shuddering.
THEY WANT $3,600 FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND ENGINE MOUNTS, ON TOP OF THE TIMING BELT! The damn car is only worth $5,800 in trade in..

NEVER WILL BUY ANOTHER ACURA

Me thinks this isn't an Acura problem but a dealer problem. Are there any good independents in your area where you can shop the price? There is no reason why a Torque Converter should cost $3600.

Sorry for your troubles. But... if you think Acura shop prices are high, try a BMW or MB some time.

Trans issues are notorius. Kind of should of expected that. Even on my 04 I expect to see some sort of issue. You probably could of worked with Acura Customer Service to lower the price. But yea, it sucks. :(

I thought the Acura transmission legacy issue was with the trany itself and not the TC. My bad if that's not the case.

Either way, $3600 seems exceptionally high for a TC...

Does anyone know if the shudder is causing damage or just annoying? I have the same thing in my 2001 MDX (100K miles) and with this many miles I can live with it if it isn't damaging everything.
midnightMDX
Pretty sure its causing damage.
