Over the course of the next two months, I've been placed in charge of creating all new websites for all of our dealerships :)

Just thought I'd try to glean some input on things that you like that you see out there, things that you as a customer would like to see on a dealership's site, and maybe some of your internet-based vehicle purchases that you either did or didn't enjoy :)

One thing I would like to see is a parts catalog for everything, if this is something you want to do. I would love to be able to order any OEM part online from you not just the accessories you currently have.

Totally doable, but the company that does that charges a flat 10% of the sale price of every part.

The websites that I'm building are for car sales and service :)

I like up to date info on model specific inventory including exterior and interior colors.

If the specific car info included the Vin number it would be good.

I like a link to what specials from the dealer and the manufacturer or having at the time.

I like an e-mail based quoting system.

I like a link to accessories and parts on the main page including pricing.

If the dealership sponsers a forum i think they should link to it.

Pricing for levels of service

I bought my X remotely through the internet and what I would like to see improve is a better understanding from the remote dealer that there is alot of anxiety in purchasing a vehicle without being able to physically see it.
I asked for and was told I would recieve the Internet managers personal inspection of my vehicle before it left since I could not be there to do it.

It showed up at my place with 1/4 tank of fuel, several plastic tear off interior items still attached, a dirty foot print on my rear seat, several dirt/greasy marks on the driver side elbow rest and middle compartment cover, 1 key, an additional 16 miles on it from the mileage communicated to me (10) and listed on the contract and while i waited for Acura to contact me so I could tell them how unhappy I was, well i am still waiting 7 months later and have heard nothing from them.

I called the Internet dealer on my cell phone before signing the delivery papers and he showed zero empathy for how I recieved this vehicle. He stated for me to fill the vehicle and have it cleaned at the local dealer and send him the bill. What I really wanted was an apology from him that he didn't do his friggen job.

Online maintenance scheduling. Let me sign up for your monthly email - you know I'll want to because you'll start putting coupons in those emails giving me $10 off an oil change or something if I book it on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Plus your service department people can suck up to me by email as well as verbally when they want to beg me to grade them well on the postcard I'm going to get in the mail (or email).

I was serious about the online scheduling and coupons in the monthly emails (or in the service reminders).

If your service reminder system is really clever it will figure out that 1) I prefer to change my oil no more frequently than every 5K, rather than whatever the service department wants me to do, and 2) that I drive an average of 2K miles per month in the winter and 1K per month in summer. Then it will time the email reminders appropriately and I won't feel spammed.

I like the features where you can choose your car, color, model, etc., and then see it change as you add/delete accessories. But you get that stuff direct from Honda, right?

DO NOT BUILD AN ALL FLASH HOME PAGE. And if you have audio, make it easy to find the "off" button. Web sites with audio are NSFW, almost more than porn sites are NSFW (no one sits behind me, but everyone can here my computer start talking or playing music suddenly).

I'd be happy to look at mockups. Or just throw out snarky remarks once you've slaved for hours building it ;-).

Have fun.
